Öz Romanın en önemli öğelerinden birisi zamandır. Zamanın olmadığı bir roman düşünülemez. Özellikle tarihî romanlar zaman kavramının daha çok ön plâna çıktığı roman türüdür. Bir tarihî olayı, zaman unsurundan ayrı değerlendirmek mümkün değildir. Tarihî roman yazılmakla, zamana değer verildiği ortaya konmuş olunmaktadır. Yani tarihî romanı yazmakla maziye gösterilen bu ilginin arkasında, zaman kavramının da yattığı bir gerçektir. Bu yüzden bir esere tarihî roman vasfını kazandıran en önemli unsurun zaman olduğunu rahatlıkla söyleyebiliriz. Bu çalışmamızda hem romandaki zaman kavramınını hem de tarihisel romanların edebiyatımızdaki gelişimini incelemeye çalıştık.
