During the early years of the Republic, the instruction of Turkish Art Music/Alaturka Music was excluded from curricula (December 1926), for about two years (November 2, 1934 - September 6, 1936) radio stations were banned from playing Turkish Folk Music and Turkish Art Music. Moreover, various attempts were made so as to produce music in the western sense. In the same period, the education and practice venues of religious music education and were reduced to next to nothing, and any efforts to foster this genre of music were to be regarded as attempts to perform banned rituals.
