Abstract

Kırşehir is one of first the regions which met with writing as it is was a close neighborhood of Kültepe in which records of Anatolia’s historical geography were found besides many documents at the end of 2nd millennium B.C. In a way, Kırşehir’s historical ages started with Assyria Trade Colonies Age. There had been Hittite Hegemony in Kırşehir and neighborhood starting from the first quarter of 2000 B.C until the last quarter. Namely, this region was in Kızılırmak arch which was known to be the centre of Hittite’s and called Marassantiya by them. After Hittite hegemony, Kırşehir was within the boundaries of Phrygian country which had domination over the regions between Sakarya (Sangarios) Basin and Kızılırmak (Marassantiya/Halys) arch at the beginning of 1st millennium B.C; after this period, the city came under the domination of Persians. Kırşehir had become the western door of Cappadocia which was a big region and one of the few significant regions in Anatolia. The city, which made a name for itself in the atmosphere of uncertainty in Hellenistic Age, entered a revival era in Roman Period. The aim of this study is to enlighten the historical geography of Kırşehir and around in 1st and 2nd millennium B.C, which is the subject of this study, with the findings from large and small settlements in Colonial Age, journey scriptures, antique sources and scriptures in Roman Period.
