THE DETERMİNATİON OF THE CLASSROOM TEACHERS’ ATTİTUDES TOWARDS RENEWABLE ENERGY

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the classroom teachers’attitudes towards renewable energy and their of demogratif characters, gender, age, professional seniority and knowledge acquiring source. The teachers who work in Çıldır County, Ardahan compose the paradigm of this research which has been done in 2011-2012 Academic Year. The primary school classroom teachers (n=35) participated in this research. The research is based on screening model. In this research, a scale,which was found 0,70 credibility as a data collection instrument and consists of 39 items prepared by Oskay ( 2007 ), was used. The scale was prepared as a five point likert type. The data was analysed with SPSS programme. Frequency(f) and percentage (%) amounts with descriptive statistics were used for the analysis of the data. According to the research indications, it was found that the teachers, in general, have positive attitudes towards renewable energy. However, it was also found that some of the teachers don’t have enou gh information about renewable energy. The teachers have positive attitudes towards renewable energy which can be used meeting increasing energy demand and energy saving,reducing environmental damage and protecting environment,removing substantially the negative effect of greenhouse gases. On the other hand, the teachers believe that the media should undertake important responsibilities on the subject of teaching the importance of the usage of renewable energy sources. Besides, most of the teachers have an agreement on the importance of raising awareness about the importance of energy sources and energy saving in the processes of inservice training and seminars should be given about renewable and nonrenewable energy sources at schools. It is seen that the participation of the female and male teachers,who are in the paradigm group, was nearly equal percantage. Most of the teachers,who participated in the questionnaire,are between 25 and 30 years old and their professional seniority is between 1 and 5 years. It was also found that their knowledge acquiring sources are television and the internet.
