Abstract

Among religious communities in the modern period, ethnic discussions are more than those in the past. In fact, all the responses for the question about the kind of a group, can be evaluated within identity. When this situation is discussed for Alawi communities living in Turkey geography, it is known that they speak Turkish, Arabic, Kurdish and Zazaki languages. While Alawi community is classified in general, certain views on their ethnic origin are suggested. However, when ethnic identities of Alawi people speaking Zazaki come into question, many ideas are suggested. In this circumstance, in today's Turkey, discussions still continue in particular about ethnic identity of Alawi people speaking Zazaki. In this study, ethnic origins of Alawi people speaking Zazaki have been researched in the light of historical and scientific information by avoiding political and ideological discussions. In this context of this study, we looked for answers of questions on whether Alawi people speaking Zazaki accepts their ethnic origins as Kurd, Turk, Pharisee or Zaza. Method of our study is to ask the prepared surveys to experimental subjects and to analyze the data in the light of answers of them. Area of our study is different regions where Alawi people speaking Zazaki live, notably Tunceli, Elazığ, Erzincan and Bingöl. Experimental subjects were informed that the study is for objective and scientific purpose and then were asked to answer the question discreetly and their identifying information was not asked. In our study, after evaluating discussions about ethnic origins of Alawites people speaking Zazaki, in the light of data acquired - considering the case- we will answer the question that how Alawi people speaking Zazaki describes themselves.
