A COMPARİSON OF THE ATTİTUDES OF PROSPECTİVE SCİENCE TEACHERS AND PROSPECTİVE SOCİAL TEACHER TOWARDS THE ENVİRONMENT

Abstract

In this study; We analyzed the consciousness of the prospective science teacher and prospective social teacher and comparison their environmental awareness. The sample of the study consist of 100 participants of whom having studied in Artvin Çoruh University in 2011-2012. The environmental consciousness scale developed by Keser (2008) was arranged and carried out on the prospective primary school teachers by the researchers. The environmental consciousness scale has likert scale that “5= Absolutely Agree, 4= Agree, 3= Indecisive, 2=Disagree, 1=Strongly Disagree” sample point. The environmental consciousness scale (ECS) which consist of 53 items is composed of 6 subtitles as the taste of the nature (9 items), environmental action (9 items), the environmental threat (10 items), the use of nature by humans (10 items), the trust of science and technology (8 items), the support of policies on the population increase (7 items). The data obtained as a result of application was analyzed by the SPSS 15. In the statistical analyse of the data, variance analysis (ANOVA) was used to determine the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. The environment consciousness was researched among prospective science teacher and prospective social teacher by using the t-test. According to the findings, considering the analysis of the ECS, was not found statistical different in the prospective science teacher and prospective social teacher in the environment consciousness. But prospective science teacher has got the more average point than prospective social teacher on the environmental consciousness likert scale.
