Abstract

Relationships between languages is inevitable. All languages are in mutual effect with the languages which they have a relationship. They borrow language elements from each other and give each other. It is known that this natural deal exists since the beginning of history. This is the same for the Turkish language as well. Turkish borrowed both words and language elements from the foreign languages. These borrowings rely on knowledge, learning, political and economical advantage, the governer and the public deal, affectation and fashion. Borrowings do not harm the natural structure of the language in fact it is done in normal and well circumstances. But Turkish, in the changing and developing period which comes till today, invaded by the foreign language elements and faced with various language problems from time to time because of the unhealthy borrowings. By the effect of the mass media, these problems have expanded and increased each day and draged our language to an impurity. Turkish lives the language pollution today as well which was lived before from time to time. In this paper, it is held the effect of the Western origin foreign elements which is one of the basic reason of the language pollution in Turkish. The pollution and the foreign elements in today’s Turkish is tried to be appreciated by considering the period after 1950’s rather than the situation before Language Reform and the pollution of that time. The foreign elements in the language are not considered just in words; grammatical elements, the translation of the foreign language forms, the writing features of the borrowed words are also considered.
