Abstract

The problem of Websites’ accessibility is one of the main field that web designer has been studied for many years. The aim of these studies is able to design web pages which are accessible by everyone. Nowadays, people of various age groups are using internet in all over the World. A part of these users are disabled because of health problems and these users have to connect to internet on the different platforms. Younger or older elderly attracting users with reading difficulties, use special software that visually impaired users, different operating systems and different platforms connected to the Internet enables all users seamless access to the website and the site for alternative solutions to problems that may arise can be produced that will show the level of accessibility of the site. Unreadable content, the page can not be displayed and will complicate the use of the site content. Enter the captcha using, for example, but on a page that does not use an alternative voice for the visually impaired, these users will not be able to move forward from this page. The purpose of this study is to examine websites by using the standards of World Wide Web Consortium (www.w3.org) and determine accessibility rate of these websites for people who are disabled. The Websites of faculties, colleges and institues of Ege University are selected as the case of this study. In the first part of study, the required qualifications for accessibility of websites will be described. In the second part, the websites that included to study will be tested by using the criteria of websites’ accessibility. In the last part of study, the lack of accessibility of these websites will be identified and some solutions will be presented in order to make accessibility of these websites excellent.
