Abstract

In this study, the relationships between the conditions of the classes in which the teachers teach (technical equipment, population of the class, heating type, etc.) and perceived teacher competence have been examined. This study has been conducted with 161 male and 111 female, in total 272 teachers working in Adıyaman. SPSS programme has been used to analyse the data. According to the obtained data, meaningful differences have been seen between teacher competences in terms of classroom conditions. Considerable differences have been seen in terms of gender of teachers. Female teachers feel more qualified than male teachers in terms of perceived competence of teachers. According to the research, class conditions, like lighting of class, creates meaningful differences on competence of teachers. If the class conditions are sufficient, the teacher will feel more competent. Also, current status of the class and heating system of class has caused important differences at perceived competence of teachers. The teachers who conduct the educational process in classes heated by central heating system feel themselves more competent than the others who use stove in their classes. In a study conducted in terms of the physical conditions of the class, significant differences have occurred at perceived competence of teachers. Teacher effectiveness varies according to the conditions of the class. To sum up, the physical conditions of the classes should be improved considering the opinions of teachers.
