Abstract

Ibrahim Rif’at’s work named “Su’alli Cevâblı Ta’lîm-i Edebiyyat-ı Osmaniyye” which was published in Hijri 1312 , seems to be a short schoolbook or rather a pamphlet which handles the main subjects of rhetoric by question-answer technique. The work consists of two parts and 29 pages in total. First one is the introduction part of 2 pages called “ifade-i meram” and the second one is the main part of 27 pages which have been studied under 10 titles. Ibrahim Rif’at has explained the main issues related to rhetoric by asking questions and giving short answers to them in the work. During the research it was determined that Ibrahim Rif’at has composed his work on a large scale by plagiarizing Ahmed Cevdet’s work named “Belagat-i Osmaniyye”. Almost all of the statements existing in the work of Ibrahim Rif’at appear to be the copy of Ahmed Cevdet’s work by some little differences in some parts and entirely same in other parts. In this study primarily Ibrahim Rif’at’s work has been searched comperatively with the work of Ahmed Cevdet and the similarities between the works have been tried to be revealed by examples. Subject headings and their page numbers of both works have been arranged in a tabular format for the purpose of a clearer analysis of plagiarism or similarity situation. Finally transcribed text of the work has been added to the end of the study. By this study, it has been tried to be presented that plagiarism is a problem of not only today but as can be seen if examining carefully is an act attempted in the past as well.
