Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore and find out how to improve teaching German taught as the second foreign language after English in Turkey. Firstly, taking the students’ point of view into consideration the issue on how to make conscious use of English while teaching German has been discussed thoroughly. It has been observed that making use of English (L2) while teaching German (L3) to native Turkish speakers is advantageous. A comparative study on the structure and vocabulary of English and German might increase motivation in students learning German as a third language. It is obvious that this comparative study on both European languages namely English and German will be supportive to the process of teaching German as L3. The conscious and unconscious transfers between those two languages can be more meaningful through comparative analysis. In this study the vocabulary used and the example structures have been translated into three languages.
