Abstract

The Hansa Union, is the first organized trade union in the world. Established towards the end of the 12th century, started to be called at the first half of the 13th century documents and gradually growing until the middle of the 16th century, as a major commercial and economic power, and thus became one of the decisive actor in Europe and consequently in world trade. Germany which was in the position of the center of European trade assumed by that time as “worldtrade”, after 900 years, still is to maintain the similar position in the 21th century. Uncontrolled expansion process which brings the end of Hansa was in 150 years from establishment, while in European Union example of modern ages, raising from 6 member to 28 member is around 50 years. Strengthening of China and the Far East countries, also shifts the trade roads to east again. The Greek crisis and Brexit Decision are shaking the foundations of the European Union critically. The aim of this study is to understand the organisation in the history, which their effects are still going on and draw out lessons necessary for today. Scanning method was used in this study. Çeviri hatasıThe second part tells what the Hansa Union is. In the third part, the formation of the Hansa Union and its beginning are explained. The fourth part describes the development of the Hansa Union, and the fifth part describes Hansa Day. The sixth part describes the dissolution of the Hansa Union. In the seventh part, information was given about the German cities of Hansa. In the eighth part, the contribution of the Hansa Union to globalization is explained, in the ninth part, the recent similarities with the end of the Hansa Union in the light of the recent developments in the European Union are examined. In the conclusion section, the courses to be taken for today are mentioned. In the literature, no other study comparing the Hansa Union with the European Union has been found. In this sense, it is thought to contribute to the literature.
