Abstract

Fairy tales, constitute an important branch of Turkish folk literature in terms of carrying Turkish tradition of oral-written culture and tradition. Many of them conveyed throughout generations in the historical process, have their existence in similar or different forms in today's electronic culture atmosphere. At this point, compilation of the fairy tales have an important place. As a matter of fact, regions with difficult geographical conditions spread their oral cultural products to a wider geographical area due to the immigration. But the tradition of telling the fairy tales decreasing due to today’s electronic culture atmosphere. So compilation of the fairy tales becomes important achieving about the source. In this study the fairy tale "Sultan's Daughter and Yakup the Green" compiled in the province of İbradı in Antalya will be examined in terms of types and motifs according to Eberhard-Boratav and Aarne-Thompson fairy tale catalogs. In the conclusion section, it will be compared with the similar samples. İbradi, where the tale is compiled, is a plateau with an average altitude of 1300 meters. The possible difficulties in compilation activities are understood because of considering the physical conditions. It has caused the fairy tale to run out of sight due to lacking of tale compilation activities. The leading event in this fairy tale is about the sultan’s youngest daughter and her lover who has some extraordinary abilities named Yakup the Green. The theme of the fairy tale is the girl’s setting forth to looking for her lover because of revealing his misteries, getting helped by the people who met her at the road, rejoining with her lover and escaping from her lover’s mother and aunt by his extraordinary abilities.
