Abstract

As Emile Durkheim asserted, all facts are social facts. We face with concepts and words as a product of social life. Refering to George Orwel’s Animal Farm, ‘all facts are social but translation is more social’. In terms of methaphorical usage, it wouldn’t be wrong to claim that most of our activities are based on ‘translation’. Translating our ideas to spoken or written language, transforming the the food and water into digestive system, translating the book into our thoughts, translating the wood into furniture, translating mental capacity into acts, transforming our body, all and more can be regarded as forms of translation. In any transformation related to human, it is possible and natural to find something about translation. This study aims to bring a sociological outlook to Yoga Journal and its Turkish translation Yoga Journal Turkiye in line with the multidimensional nature of translation. Within this framework interviews with the editor and the translator of the Yoga Journal Turkey is evaluated. Referring to Bourdieu’s concept ‘field’, the actors changing the field is exemplified with the sample of Yoga Journal Turkey magazine. Yoga Journal Turkiye team, as a mediator between receptor and the receipting cultures doesn’t only influenced by the receptor culture but with its internal dynamics, caused mobilization in the recepting culture as well.
