Every change in the social structure in the historical process has affected the Turkish family institution closely. The family institution, which serves as a bridge in the transfer of material and spiritual values from generation to generation, from the past to the present, is one of the leading social institutions in which the effects and consequences of every change in the social field are most clearly monitored. Family institution and family relations, which are directly affected by the facts such as industrialization, modernization, urbanization, have undergone a transformation in recent years with the developments in communication technologies. The fact that individuals are in contact with the outside world inside their homes through media technologies such as television, internet, and mobile phones has made it inevitable for them to experience disconnections with family members. Thanks to the developing media technology, while social and emotional sharing has decreased, especially with television and internet, the family has started to become a community of individuals sharing the same house. The reduction of social and emotional sharing within the family has led to the fulfillment of interest, love and support through these tools. It is remarkable that a rapid transformation has occurred in the traditional family structure with the widespread use of mass media.However, despite all these factors, the Turkish family structure continues to maintain both its contemporary and traditional features. In the study, the change and transformation of the Turkish family structure and the factors affecting these developments were evaluated, and the effects of mass media, especially new media technologies, on the family institution were discussed theoretically. },author={Seçil UTMA},year={2020},journal={The Journal of Academic Social Science Studies}}
