Abstract
Kent tarihi yazımında incelenen döneme ait kaynakların doğru kullanımı önemli bir konudur. Kent tarihi, son yıllarda yeni bir toplumsal tarih yazımı alanı olarak gelişmeye başlamıştır. Bu alanda çok sayıda çalışma ortaya konulurken, kaynak kullanımı konusunda da bazı problemler gündeme gelmektedir. Bu nedenle bir kentin tarihi yazılırken nelere dikkat edilmesi gerektiği konusunun önemle ele alınması gerekmektedir.Tarihsel süreçte hangi dönem temel alınarak inceleniyorsa, o döneme ait kaynakların tespit edilerek çalışmanın öznesi olan kent dikkatlice incelenmelidir. Bu çalışmada Osmanlı dönemi Tarsus tarihine dair bir araştırmada ne tür Osmanlı kaynaklarının kullanılabileceği irdelenmiştir. Amaç bu kaynakların ne tür veriler içerdiği ve nerelerde bulunduğunu ortaya koyarak, Osmanlı Dönemi Tarsus kentinin kısa tarihçesini anlamak ve anlatabilmektir. Yazıda öncelikle Tarsus Tarihine dair Osmanlı kaynakları hakkında genel ve kısa bilgiler verilerek son bölümde bu kaynaklar ışığında Osmanlı Dönemi Tarsus’unun tarihsel değişimine değinilmiştir. Böylece, kökeni çok eskilere dayanan bir Anadolu Kenti olan Tarsus’un tarihsel değişim süreci, ele alınan dönemin kaynaklarının da tanıtımıyla birlikte daha anlaşılır kılınmıştır. Antik Çağlardan beri sürekliliği devam eden Tarsus, Osmanlı coğrafyası içinde de önemli bir yere sahip kentler arasındaydı. Bu nedenle Osmanlı Dönemine ait bol miktarda kaynakta Tarsus’a dair zengin verilere rastlamak da mümkün olmuştur. Bu açıdan bakıldığında Tarsus’un bir yerel tarih yazım alanı olarak oldukça olanaklı bir örneklem oluşturduğu görülmektedir.

Abstract
The proper use of historical matterials in the establishment of narratives of urban history is an important subject matter. Urban history as a brand new subject of social history has been lately in the agenda of the historians. However, access to the sources and their prior usage were the most initial challenges. Therefore it is crucial to put forward the points that require close attention. The city which is the subject of inquiry should be carefully analysed by identifying the matterials and sources belonging to the time period that is under investigation. In this study the kinds of the Ottoman documentary sources that can be used in a study conducted to establish a narrative for the Ottoman Tarsus are analysed. The aim of the study is to identify both the kinds of information that can be compiled from the Ottoman documentary sources, and also the institutions from which the respective sources can be obtained in order to understand and relate the short history of Tarsus city during the Ottoman era. The primary sources will be evealuated in the first part of the this article, afterwards the historical change in the Tarsus city will be analyzed in the light of the primary sources. The retainability of the region from antiquity had drawn the attention of the scholars, therefore a rich source of data, mostly belong to Otoman era, could be found in Tarsus. From this point of view Tarsus region would be an important example of local historical writing.
