Abstract

80/699 yılında Medine’de doğan Vâsıl b. Atâ, gençlik yıllarında Basra’ya hicret etmiş, orada Hasan el-Basrî’nin ders halkalarına katılmıştır. Mu’tezile’nin kurucusu olarak bilinir ve dinî öğütler üzerine kurulu olan vaaz türünde meşhur isimlerden biridir. Vâsıl, üstün zekaya sahip birisiydi. Kendi döneminde yaşayan hatipler içerisinde ilmiyle, belağattaki yeteneğiyle, beyandaki akıcılığıyla ve dikkat çeken üslûbuyla öne çıkmış bir hatiptir. Çok konuşmayı sevmezdi. “ra” harfini telaffuz edemeyen Vâsıl, konuşmalarında bu harfi kullanmamaya özen gösterirdi. “ra” harfinin bulunduğu kelimeler yerine, ilgili kelimenin Arapça’da aynı karşılığı bulunan başka kelimeleri kullanırdı. Irak valisi Abdullah b. Ömer b. Abdulaziz’in huzurunda Basra hatipleri arasında yapılan bir yarışmada irticalen “ra”sız hutbesini irad etmiş ve diğer hatiplere üstünlük sağlamıştır. Bu yeteneğiyle “Hatibu’l-Mu’tezile” diye anılmıştır. Nakli ve akli delilleri ikna edici gücüyle en güzel şekilde yorumlamış, güzel konuşma yeteneğiyle edebiyatın inceliklerine olan vukûfiyetini ortaya koymuştur. Bu hutbesi de onun bu özelliklerini ortaya koyması bakımından önemli bir vesikadır. Böylece hem hitabetin güzel bir örneğini sergilemiş, hem de Arap edebiyatında edebi bir tür olan ve özellikle de Emeviler döneminde dinî bir propaganda aracı olan hitabet sanatındaki yeteneğini bariz bir şekilde ortaya koymuştur.

Abstract

Wâsil was born in Madina in 80/699 and he migrated to Basra in his youth. In Basra, he attended Hasan al-Basri’s lectures. He is known as the founder of the Mu’tazila and he is one of the famous names on the type of sermons which based on religion advice. Wâsil was the one with superior intelligence. He came to prominence among the orators who lived in his time, as a orator with his knowledge, with the ability to eloquence, with the fluency in the statement and with remarkable style. He would not like to talk too. Because he could not pronounce the letter “r” so, he was careful not to use this letter in his speech. He could use another words rather than words with letter “r”. In a competition, was held between orators of Basra in the presence of Iraq governer Abdullah b. Umar b. Abdulaziz, he said a oration without letter “r” and he was superior to the other orators. That is why he called “the orator of Mu’tazila”. He commented the transport and rational proofs in the best way with his convincing power and he has exhibited his qualification in the fineness of the literature with his ability of eloquence. This oratory is also an important document in terms of revealing his features. Thus, both exhibited a fine example of oratory and obviously demonstrated his ability in oratory that a literary genre in Arab literature and especially a religous propaganda tool in Umayyad period.
