ORTAOKUL ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN İNGİLİZCE ÖĞRENİMİNDE KARŞILAŞTIKLARI SORUNLARA İLİŞKİN GÖRÜŞLERİ: NİTEL BİR ÇALIŞMA

Abstract
Küreselleşen dünyada en az bir yabancı dil öğrenmek kaçınılmaz hale gelmiştir. İngilizce giderek uluslararası bir dil olmuştur. Ülkemizde de ilkokuldan başlamak üzere üniversite düzeyine kadar İngilizce öğrenimine programlarda yer verilmektedir. Ancak bütün çabalara rağmen İngilizce öğreniminde arzu edilen düzeye ulaşılamadığı da bir gerçektir. Bu araştırmanın amacı ortaokul öğrencilerinin İngilizce öğreniminde karşılaştıkları sorunlara ilişkin görüşlerini belirlemektir. Bu çerçevede, öğrencilerin İngilizce öğreniminde dinleme, konuşma, yazma ve okuma becerilerinde karşılaştıkları sorunların neler olduğuna, İngilizce öğretmenlerinin kullandığı yöntem, teknik ile araç-gereçlerin yeterlilik ve etkililiğine ve sınıfların fiziksel imkân ve donanımlarına ilişkin görüşleri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin İngilizce dil öğreniminin gerekliliğine ilişkin görüşleri de saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada nitel araştırma deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılı Bahar yarıyılında Elazığ il merkezinde bir devlet okulunda öğrenim gören öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada maksimum çeşitlilik örneklemesi kullanılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmaya 5., 6., 7. ve 8. sınıf öğrencileri dahil edilmiştir. Her bir sınıf düzeyinden İngilizce dil bilgisi düzeyi açısından iki iyi, iki orta ve iki de zayıf olmak üzere altışar öğrenci belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada toplam 24 öğrenci yer almıştır. Öğrenci seçiminde gönüllülük esas alınmıştır. Öğrencilere yarı yapılandırılmış beş soru yöneltilmiş ve görüşmeler yüz yüze gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma ile öğrencilerin İngilizce öğreniminde; öğretmen, sınıf ortamı, okulun fiziksel imkânları açısından çeşitli sorunlar yaşadıkları belirlenmiştir. Araştırma ile ulaşılan bulgular doğrultusunda çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmaktadır.

Abstract
Learning at least one foreign language in this globalised world has become inevitable. In our country, learning English has been involved in curriculum from primary school to university education. However, despite of these all efforts, it is a reality that learning English could not reach the level of desired. The aim of this study is to determine the views of secondary school students about the problems they face in learning English. Within this scope, it is tried to determine what the problems students have in listening, speaking, writing, and reading; the sufficiency and effectiveness of methods, techniques and equipments of English teachers use in their classes; and the physical opportunities&equipments of classes. Moreover, the views of students about the necessity of learning English is tried to determine. In this study, qualitative research design has been used. The study group consist of the students who study in a state school, in center of Elazığ, in 2016-2017 academic year, spring term. Maximum variation sampling method has been used in the study. In this direction, 5th , 6th, 7th and 8th grade students get involved in study. Six each students have been determined from each grade as two of them are good, two average, and two weak in termof their language adequancy. Totally, 24 students participated the study. Volunteer students participated to the study. 5 semi-structured questions was asked to students and interviewed was face to face. With this study, it is determined that students have some problems with their teacher, classroom environment and the physical opportunities of school. Several recommendations are offered based on the research findings.
