THE EFFECT OF VISUALIZATION ON REACHING THE SUBJECT OF IDENTITIES

Abstract

In this study, it is investigated that the effects of visualization in mathematics with respect to the reaching level of eighth grade students on the subject of “Identities”. The survey at this study was realized in the second term at 2007-2008 academic year. The work group was constituted by the eighth grade students who are at two different classes in Kırıkhan Beş Temmuz Primary School in Hatay. The total number of students was 50. In the survey, while the subject of the “Identities” is applied to control group by the way of traditional method of instruction, the same subject is applied to experiment group by the way of visualization. In this fieldwork, the pattern of pre-test and post-test has been applied to the control group and experiment group. Then the data of the research was collected by using the “Success Test of ‘Identities’” prepared by the researchers as pre-test and post-test. In the analysis of data, t-tests of dependent samples and t-tests of independent samples have been used. As a result of the survey, in the subject of ”the Identities“, the students of experimental group who are taught by visualization are more successful than the students who are taught by traditional teaching methods. According to the obtained data; it can be said that the visualization in the teaching of Mathematics is a more effective method than the traditional teaching methods in terms of reaching level of eighth grade students on the subject of Identities.
