Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out instuctors’s impression management tactics usage levels and to investigate these levels according to different variables. In the context of this aim, the answers to the questions below were investigated; do the instuctors’s impression management tactics usage levels show a significant difference according to the variables below: according the faculty they work at, according to gender, according to their deparment, according to length of service, according to their titles and according to their education level? The universe of the study was made up of instructors working at Abant İzzet Baysal University (A.İ.B.Ü.) Faculty of Education and Sakarya University (S.Ü.) Faculty of Education. In this study, Impression Management Tactics Usage Levels Scale which was developed by Demir (2002) was used to find out instuctors’s impression management tactics usage levels. In the analysis of the data, t-test and one way ANOVA were used. The results of this study are as follows: No significant difference was found between instuctors’s impression management tactics usage levels and the faculty they work at, gender, length of service, their titles and their education level variables but a significant difference was found between instuctors’s impression management tactics usage levels and their department. Even though the present study on impression management tactics aim to create an awareness on the readers about the subject area and to contribute to the study area, it is limited to the academicians. It is believed that the study area would be beneficial when similar studies are actualized on the subject with expanded different sample groups. Additionally, sources of differences can be revealed through in-depth qualitative research studies.
