Abstract

Analysis of “Küçük Ağa”, by Tarık Buğra, in terms of theme and structure is a study of the mentioned novel. The novel tells about the Ottoman Empire defeated in the World War I and then the liberation movement and the struggle for independence. The establishment of Kuvayımilliye and the replacement of Kuvayımilliye by the regular army is told eloquently. The most important theme of the work is the struggle for power between Kuvayımilliye and the Sultan, which is the major conflict of the period. There existed a struggle between those who support the Sultan and those who support Kuvayımilliye to liberate the country which was under invasion. While Kuvayımilliye supporters were aiming to save the Sultan, claiming that the Sultan was held captive in the hands of the British, the Istanbul government considered the supporters of Kuvayımilliye as insurgents and issued a fatwa against them. In this article, thematic and structural elements of the “Küçük Ağa” novel will be studied. The view and function of the characters will be evaluated and the characters will be analyzed. In addition, the work will be analyzed in terms of time, space, perspective and the elements of narration. This study aims to have a better understanding of the theme of this great work of our literature, to analyze the message given to the readers and to show the national consciousness given through the story by analyzing the novel of “Küçük Ağa”, by Tarık Buğra, in terms of theme and structure. In this study, theme, plot, characters, time, setting, perspective and the elements of narration will be considered under the title of “Analysis of Küçük Ağa in terms of theme and. Structure”.
