INVESTIGATION OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL BEGINNER VIOLA METHOD TEXTBOOKS

Abstract

This research has basic purposes such as determining the beginner viola method books used in national and international areas, identifying educational materials and teaching methods of the ones which can be derived, describing them by comparisons, stating a descriptive study evaluated the contents of prior studies for the educators who have been aiming of writing method books about viola and/or other instruments. This study is a descriptive survey at general scan mode. In this study, as 2 national and 14 international, totally 16 viola beginner books were reviewed and the starting methods that have an extremely important place in the musical education were evaluated by viewing in the framework viola. As a result of this, it's established that there is not enough information in the viola methods, especially for beginners following results are achieved; % 68,75 of beginner viola method books don’t involve instruments’ physical features, none involue historical features, % 93.75 don’t involve tuning the instrument, % 81.25 don’t involve body pose, % 68,75 don’t involuve how to handle the instrument, % 62,5 don’t give any knowledge about how to handle the fiddlestick and left hand position on keyboard. Thirteen of them begin their education by studying fiddlestick and guestion the fiddle stick tecniques. All of them involue Detache tecniques and % 75 involue scale and arpej studies, % 50 involue interval studies, %56,25 include multible voice etude samples and double voice studies, % 18,75 include ornament studies. None of them provides audiovisual support and % 50 of them don’t give examples of composer studies.
