With colour, meanings which have been shaped by historical events and traditional structures reflect characteristic features belonging to the society. In this context, for a nation, colour sometimes had a holy meaning, sometimes became a representative of abstract and concrete cultural heritage. From past to present, symbolic interpretations about colours have continued their existence in cultural texture among Turks. Some classifications in the past, such as clean, scarlet, sky blue are now grey, white, grizzle, crimson, red and blue. For instance, white horse or piebald has become dapple grey. In Femme Fatale belief, a representative of a bad creature according to common belief, scarlet has continued its negative meaning. Concept of colour has a wide coverage in Turkish culture. Thus, in the first chapter of the study, various meanings and symbolic figures attributed to colours in sagas, legends, stories and common belief, were handled briefly. In the second chapter, it was tried to present whether colours, being very important for a society affect the text which is being read. The research is qualitative, based on document review and it was made with ninety 6th grade students. Study groups were selected randomly. As a result of the study, it was determined that in reading comprehension, students reading black- written texts on red background colour got the highest score; on the other hand students reading the same texts on green background colour got the lowest score. },author={Zekerya BATUR-- Salih GÜLERER},year={2013},journal={The Journal of Academic Social Science Studies}}
