Abstract

In this research, relationship between adults’ geographic literacy levels and different variables is revealed. Population of the research consists of adults in Adıyaman. Research sample consists of 337 adults selected by the researcher in Adıyaman. Descriptive survey model was used in the research. "Geographic Literacy Test" developed by the researcher was used in order to gather data. At the end of the research, it is found out that geographic literacy levels of the adults are not satisfying. It is determined that geographic literacy levels of the adults do not vary significantly in terms of gender. The age of the young age of geography literacy levels of adults have been found to be at a better level than the older ones. Education levels of geography literacy levels of adults with high education levels appeared to be in a better level than the lower. The adults working as officers are determined to have a higher geography literacy levels than other occupational groups (housewives, workers, unemployed) The housewives are determined to have the lowest geography literacy level. It is also determined that the geography literacy levels of the adults, who have been to 5-6 different before are higher than the ones who have been to less or no countries. It is determined that 2/3 of the adults have never been to abroad before. The similarities and differences of the findings obtained from the research from the previous national and international researches have been revealed.
