Abstract

After the National struggle Period was over, sultanate was abolished and Republic was proclaimed on 29 October 1923. After the proclamation of the Republic; reforms were made in political, social, economic and cultural areas pursuant to efforts for creating a nation state. Media is a significant tool for introducing the reforms to public. Media was used for telling the republic and reforms, raising Turkishness awareness and instilling patriotism, love of country and nation after the proclamation of Republic, just like it was used for informing the public about the military successes and telling the activities of TBMM (Turkish Grand National Assembly) in the National Struggle Period. Yeni Yol is a magazine for children published between the years of 1923 and 1926 as 113 issues. Its aim was to prepare children for the future in a period during which modernity showed itself in every stage of social life. The fact that the magazines at that time were mostly published for the educated adults had an influence on publishing the ‘’Yeni Yol’’ magazine. In addition to teachers and students, famous people such as Aka Gündüz, Hamdullah Suphi, Filorinalı Nazım and Hüviyet Bekir also wrote in the magazine. Writings about Republic, reforms, Turkishness, patriotism, importance of independence, martyrdom, Gazi Mustafa Kemal draw attention in the magazine. Besides, there were negative criticisms about the Ottoman padishahs in the writing. How Yeni Yol magazine which was started to be published in 1923 raised awareness for the children about the Republic was analyzed with respect to efforts to create a new generation. After acquiring information about Republic and the magazine by making a literature review, Yeni Yol magazine was analyzed and introduced; and finally Republic themed writings were evaluated in the study which is a qualitative and historical research.
