Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate master’s and doctoral theses and the research papers conducted in Turkey between the years 2000 and 2016 on the prosocial behaviours in preschool period. The framework of this research includes the studies on prosocial behaviours of preschool children in Turkey, except for two studies. These two studies, although conducted in Melbourne district of Australia, were included in the study since their sample is consisted of Turkish children at preschool age. Within the scope of the present study, 7 master’s and 2 doctoral theses and 6 research papers were investigated. The theses and research papers were classified according to the year when the studies were conducted, research type, research design, data collection tools, methods and the cities where the data were collected. Theses were gathered from the thesis centre of Council of Higher Education while the research papers were obtained through the index scanning of Google Scholar, Ulakbim-Journal Park, Taylor&Francis Online, Science Direct, Web of Science, Academic Search Complete and ERIC. The data of the study was collected through epistemological document analysis method. Descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage were made use of for the distribution according to the year when master’s and doctoral theses and the research papers were conducted and the methods and techniques used. According to the results obtained in the study, it is observed that studies carried out on the prosocial behaviours in preschool period in our country haven’t reached a desired level yet. As a contribution to the field, it was suggested that the issue of prosocial behaviours should be included more in the master’s and doctoral theses and the research papers.
