Abstract

Dimension of erosion hazard that causes loss of the fertile soil has quite highly in our country due to artificial effects and natural properties. In addition, erosion decreases planned useful life of the water structure by loading sediment and as a result, it causes economic losses. For that reason, it is important that scientific researches should be carried out in terms of knowledge of the erosion hazard for soil and water sustainability and planning in catchment. Erosion evaluated many factors together is a process. One of these factors is land use and land cover that has been taking into consideration in many erosion models. This research was carried out Çorum Alaca watershed located at north part of the Central Kızılırmak Region in the Central Anatolia. Total study area covers about 1656.4 km2 and lies between 825 m and 1726 m from sea level. The aims of this research are to determine values C factor (land use and land cover) using land cover and land use maps for two different years (1984 and 2012) and to calculate erosion and generate two erosion risk maps using RUSLE model. First C map for the study area was formed using land use land cover map produced by Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Villages General Directorate of Rural Services. Second C map was created by taking into consideration of Corine 2012 land use land cover map provided by Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs. When compared both C factor maps for the study area, it seem that different results were obtained particularly for forest areas. In addition, soil erosion of the basin was estimated using RUSLE model taking in to consideration of values C factor produced from different sources and results were compared. Erosion was detected in lower values when used C factor obtained from land resource inventory report of Province and used in RUSLE model. On the other hand, the ratio of high and very high soil erosion covered commonly in the study area when used of C values derived from Corine land use and land cover map. In both result maps, it was determined that pasture lands and high slope land have high erosion risk. Finally, it seems that there is no any significantly changing in agriculture areas when compared both soil erosion maps
