Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to develop a measurement tool that can be used to evaluate the altruistic fear of crime of mothers toward their children. For the validity and cross validation of the scale, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed in two separate study groups consisting of 195 and 185 people. In order to test the cross validity of the scale, Tucker's coefficient of coefficient between factor loadings obtained from both exploratory factor analysis was calculated and was found to be .99. Then, reliability coefficients were calculated for the data obtained from both study groups. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found to be .94 in the first study group consisting of 193 people and was found to be .92 in the second study group consisting of 185 people. In addition, it was found that there were very strong relations between the pre-test and post-test (retest-test) values of the scale, and this situation was evaluated as another evidence for the reliability of the scale. According to the results of item-total correlation of the scale, a one-dimensional 5-point likert-type final scale was obtained with 18 items. Scoring of scale items; completely I agree = 1 point, absolutely I disagree = It ranges between 5 points. The fear of crime score is obtained by collecting the numerical response of each item. Accordingly, the fear of crime score in creases as the fear of crime decreases in scale. It is considered that the “Altruistic Fear of Crime Scale” developed in this form can be used as a valid and reliable scale that can be used to evaluate the perceived fear of crime of mothers about their children.
