Abstract

Engellilik özellikle günümüz toplumlarında toplumun tüm kesimlerini etkileyen bir sorun olarak kabul edilmektedir. Engellilere yönelik toplumsal duyarlılığın artırılması için toplumun ve toplumun çeşitli kategorilerinin engellileri nasıl algıladığının araştırılması önemlidir. Toplumlarda engellilere yönelik tutumlar farklı şekillerde gözükmekle birlikte olumsuz tutumların varlığı genel olarak bilinmektedir. Ülkemizin genç bir nüfusa sahip olduğu düşünüldüğünde gençlerin engellilere yönelik tutumlarının incelenmesi ayrı bir önem taşımaktadır. Sanayileşme ve onun getirdiği yaşam şekli engellileri toplumun dışına itmiş, savaşlar, doğal afetler, terör olayları toplumdaki engelli sayısının artmasına neden olmuştur. Bu çalışma ile üniversite öğrencilerinin cinsiyet, öğrencilerin ailelerinin sosyoekonomik düzeyi, dindarlık, fakülte türü ile engellilere yönelik tutumları incelenmiştir. Ayrıca üniversite gençliğinin engellilere yönelik tutumlar ile bazı değişkenler arasındaki ilişkilerin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi Cumhuriyet Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören 413 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, kişisel Bilgi Formu ile Başbakanlık Özürlüler İdaresi Başkanlığı tarafından yürütülmüş “Toplum Özürlülüğü Nasıl Anlıyor?” başlıklı araştırma için proje ekibi tarafından geliştirilmiş Özürlülere Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği (ÖYTÖ) kullanılmıştır. Üniversite gençliğinin genel olarak engellilere yönelik tutumlarının olumlu olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Engellilerin toplumla bütünleşmesini sağlayan yasal düzenlemeler ve fiziksel imkânların iyileştirilmesi onların yaşamlarını kolaylaştırmaktadır. Ancak engellilere yönelik toplumsal duyarlılığın artırılması için gerek bireysel gerekse toplumsal düzeyde engellilikle ilgili farkındalığın artırılması gerekmektedir.

Abstract

Disability is regarded as a problem affecting all segments of society in especially today’s societies. In order to increase the social awareness of the disabled, it is significant to investigate how society and the various layers of society perceive disability. Along with the attitudes to disability which are observed to be in different forms, on the whole the existence of negative attitudes is also known. Considering the majority of our country’s population is constituted by the young, it becomes also prominent to investigate the youth’s attitudes towards disability. Due to industrialization and the way of life it brought, the disabled have been driven into the margins of society; besides, wars, natural disasters and terrorism have caused an increase in the number of people with disabilities. In this study, it has been aimed to investigate the relations between the students’ sex, the socio-economic levels of the students’ families, their religiosity, their faculty type and their attitudes to the disabled. The investigation of the connections between the university students’ approaches to disabled people and some variables is also in the scope of this study. The sample of the research consists of 413 students attending Cumhuriyet University. In the present research as a means of data collection, along with the Personal Information Form, the Questionnaire of Attitudes Towards the Disability Questionnaire (QATD) developed by the project team of the study entitled “How the Community Perceives Disability” and conducted by the Prime Ministry Administration for the Disabled has been used. The study concludes with the idea that university youth has generally positive attitudes towards disability. It has also been observed that the improvements in legal arrangements and the rehabilitations of the physical facilities that enable the disabled to integrate with the society facilitate their lives.
