Abstract
Yerleşmeler tarihin her döneminde insan ve faaliyetlerini yansıtan önemli somut unsurlar olmuşlardır. Coğrafya bilimi de yerleşme coğrafyası kapsamında tüm yerleşmeleri farklı yönleriyle ele alıp inceler. Yerleşme coğrafyası, sistematik olarak kırsal ve kentsel olmak üzere iki alt alana ayrılır. Kentsel yerleşmeler kapsamında ele alınan bu çalışmada ilçe merkezi olmasına rağmen sanayi ve ticaret fonksiyonları gelişmiş olan Ünye şehri incelenmiştir. Ordu iline bağlı bir ilçe idari alanına merkezlik yapan Ünye, sahip olduğu fonksiyonlar açısından çevresindeki yerleşmelere merkezlik yapan bir şehir yerleşmesidir. Kentsel yerleşmelerde en baskın fonksiyon sanayi ve ticarettir. Bu bağlamda Ünye, çevresine göre sanayi ve ticaret fonksiyonları açısından gelişmiş bir şehir yerleşmesidir. Bununla birlikte Ünye şehrinde sanayi ve ticaret fonksiyonları mekânsal açıdan farklılıklar göstermektedir. Çalışmada bu farklılıklar coğrafyanın temel ilkeleri doğrultusunda ortaya konulmuştur. Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS) ve arazi gözlemleri yardımıyla Ünye şehrindeki sanayi ve ticaret fonksiyon alanları analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada ulaşılan en önemli bulgu, sanayi ve ticaret alanlarının birbirinden farklı yerlerde konumlandığı şeklindedir. Ticaret alanları şehir merkezinde yoğunlaşırken sanayi alanları yerleşim alanları dışında, karayolu ulaşımının kolaylıkla gerçekleştiği yerlerde gelişim göstermiştir. Şehrin sürdürülebilir gelişiminde, sanayi ve ticaret alanlarının mevcut durumu ile nasıl ve ne yönde gelişim göstermesi gerektiğinin planlanmasında bu tür çalışmaların karar vericilere katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Abstract
Settlements are among the important tangible assets that show humanity and their activities in every period of history. Geography, examines all settlements from different aspects within the scope of settlement geography. The settlement geography is systematically divided into two subdivisions as rural and urban settlements. In this study, which is handled within the scope of urban settlements, Ünye city, which has developed industrial and commercial functions, has been examined. Being the center of a district area of Ordu province, Ünye is a city settlement that is the center of the surrounding settlements in terms of its functions. Industry and trade are the most dominant function in urban settlements. In this context, Ünye is a developed city settlement in terms of industrial and commercial functions. However, industrial and commercial functions differ in terms of spatial in Ünye city. In the study, these differences were revealed in line with the basic principles of geography. With the help of Geographical Information Systems, field observations and qualitative and qua titative analysis methods, industry and trade function areas in Ünye were analyzed. The most important finding reached in the study is that the industrial and commercial areas are located in different places in the city. While commercial areas were gathered in the city center, industrial areas developed in places other than residential areas, where road transport can be easily realized. It is thought that such studies will contribute to decision-makers in the sustainable development of the cities, in planning how and in what direction the industrial and commercial areas should develop.
