Abstract

Abstract

Hans Fallada, one of the 20th century German writers, is an important writer who draws attention with his criticisms of the National Socialist period not only in German literature but also in world literature. Fallada prefers to deal with the negative atmosphere of the period in which he lived as an individual, both individually and as a problem of the age. He complements his truly nourished works with fictional figures and fictional events, and successfully blends fact and fiction. The author, who refers to historical and political issues, realizes his literary creation in this direction. In his works, the lived reality is always felt in the background. Using the lived reality as a background, the author also draws attention to the aspect of keeping political, social and economic problems on the agenda. The author, who prefers to convey the messages he wants to convey in his works in an implicit way, presents an age-critical literary world to his readers with his choice of both figures and plots in this direction. Although Fallada portrays a writer who conveys daily events, the existence of the messages he wants to convey behind this daily life is not surprising for a reader who knows him and his works.

His novels “The Drunkhard” and “Little Man, What Now?” have attracted attention with their contents reflecting the problems of the age. The author has shed light on the problem of an era through the figures he has chosen and equipped, and has embodied the historical and social panorama quite successfully. For this reason, his novels aroused great repercussions in the literary world.
