Abstract
Kozmopolit ve çok katmanlı bir dokuda inşa edilen yapılar, bağlamına saygılı ve uygun bir işlevle yeniden kullanıma sunulmalıdır. Yapıya yüklenen yeni değerler, yapının eski kimliğini korumalı, kentin katmanlarını ve kimliğini yaşatmalıdır. Osmanlı Dönemi’nde etkin rol oynayan yabancı postanelerden biri olan Galata’daki eski İngiliz Postanesi, 1859 yılında inşa edilmiş, günümüze kadar farklı işlevlerde kullanılmıştır. Farklı dönemlerde restorasyon çalışmalarına uğrayan eski İngiliz Postanesi, postane işlevini kaybettikten sonra, okul, konut, marangoz atölyesi ve film prodüksiyon şirketi olarak kullanılmıştır. Eski İngiliz Postanesi 2021 yılının ekim ayında bakım ve basit onarımlar geçirerek kültürel üretim mekânı olarak “Postane’ ismiyle yeniden işlevlendirilmiştir. Yeniden işlevlendirilen bu mekân; kafe, dükkân, kütüphane, stüdyo ve terası ile kamunun kullanımına açılmıştır. Eski bir postane yapısının, farklı zaman dilimlerinde farklı işlevlerinin olması, yapının geçmiş kimliğini zenginleştirmiştir. Bu kimlik yapıya verilecek yeni işlevin belirlenmesinde de etkili bir rol oynamıştır. Paylaşan, üreten ve üretimi destekleyen kültürel merkez olma yaklaşımı ile yeniden işlevlendirilen eski bir postane yapısının farkındalığı, kullanılabilirliği arttırılmıştır. Postane’nin bakım onarım sürecinde yapının özgün mimari elemanlarına ve değerlerine saygılı ve onarıcı bir tutum sergilenmiştir. Yapıya verilen yeni işlev ile yapının kültürel ve ekonomik açıdan çevresine faydalı olması ve kendi geçmişini ve kentin hafızasını koruyup yaşatması amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada tarihi bir yapıya verilecek yeni işlevin çevreye ve yapının mimarisine uygunluğu mimari, bağlamsal ve sağladığı yararlar açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada belirlenen değerlendirme kriterlerinin ve değerlendirme sürecinin diğer çalışmalar için faydalı olması hedeflenmiştir.

Abstract
Buildings which are built in a cosmopolitan and multi-layered texture should be reused with a function that respects and accords to their contexts. The new values loaded on the building should preserve the old identity of the building, sustain the layers and identity of the city. The former British Post Office in Galata, which is one of the foreign post offices that played an active role in the Ottoman Period, was built in 1859 and has been used in different functions until today. The former British Post Office, which underwent restoration work in different periods, was used as a school, residence, carpenter's workshop and film production company after losing its post office function. The old British post office was reuse as a cultural production place under the name of "Postane", after undergoing maintenance and simple repairs in October 2021. This adaptive reuse space has been opened to public use with its cafe, shop, library, studio and terrace. The fact that an old post office building had different functions in different time periods enriched the past identity of the building. This identity also played an effective role in determining the new function to be given to the structure. The awareness and usability of an old post office structure, which has been reused with the approach of being a cultural center that shares, produces and supports production, has been increased. During the maintenance and repair process of the Post Office, a respectful attitude was displayed to the original architectural elements and values of the building. With the new function given to the building, it is aimed that the building will be beneficial to its environment in terms of culture and economy, and that it will preserve and keep its own past and the memory of the city alive. In this study, the suitability of the new function of historical building to its own environment and its own architecture was evaluated. It is aimed that the evaluation criteria and evaluation process which are determined in the study will be useful for other studies.
