Abstract
Yer adı bilimi, ad biliminin yer adlarının kaynağını ve dağılımını inceleyen alt dalıdır. İnsanlar, tarih boyunca kendi adlarını ve yaşadıkları yerlerin adlarını özellikle önemsemişler ve bunlara rastgele adlar vermemişlerdir, yörenin tarihî ve coğrafî özelliklerini ya da yörede yaşamış önemli şahsiyetleri dikkate alarak yaşadıkları yerleri adlandırmışlardır. Yer adlarını inceleyerek o yerin sosyo-ekonomik yapısı, kültürü, bitki örtüsü, coğrafî özellikleri gibi birçok konuda bilgi edinmek mümkündür. Giresun ilindeki yer adlarını incelediğimiz bu çalışmada 1944 yılına ait 1/25.000 ölçekli Giresun ili memleket haritası dikkate alınmıştır. Türkiye genelinde bulunan yabancı kökenli yer adlarının (özellikle köy adları) değiştirilmesi süreci 1956-1967 yılları arasında ve 1983’te olmuştur. Bu değişikliklerden öncesine ait yer adlarını incelediğimiz bu çalışmada ağızlarda yaşayan kelimeler ile oluşturulmuş çok sayıda yer adı tespit edilmiştir. Bütün yer adları leksik-semantik açıdan sınıflandırılmış ve yapısına göre incelenmiştir.

Abstract
Toponymy is the sub-branch of onomastics that studies the source and distribution of place names. Throughout history, people have paid special attention to their own names and the names of the places they live in, and they have not given them random names; they have named the places they have lived by taking into account the historical and geographical features of the region or the important figures who lived in the region. By examining place names, it is possible to obtain information on many subjects such as the socio-economic structure, culture, vegetation and geographical features of that place.In this study, where we examined the place names in Giresun province, the 1/25,000 scale Giresun province map of 1944 was taken into consideration. The process of changing foreign place names (especially village names) throughout Turkey took place between 1956-1967 and in 1983. In this study, where we examined the place names before these changes, many place names created with words living in dialects were identified. All place names were classified lexically-semantically and examined according to their structure.
