Abstract


ANALYSIS OF THE LEVEL OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ HOPELESSNESS IN TERMS OF DIFFERENT VARIABLES: EXAMPLE OF ARDAHAN PROVINCE
In this study, it’s been aimed to determine the level of elementary school teachers’ hopelessness and whether the level of hopelessness differ in terms of some personal variables. 117 elementary school teachers who were randomly selected among the elementary school teachers working in the Primary schools in Ardahan participated this research. A scale consisting of two parts has been used to collect the data. The fist part consists of Beck Hopelessness Scale and the second part consists of the General Information Form which was developed by the researchers of this study. Kolmogrov-Simirnov Test has been applied to the data in order to determine the appropriate statistical way to analyze the data which had been collected in this research. According to the test, the data doesn’t have a normal distribution and the statistical analysis can only be done by using nonparametric tests. For that reason, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H Test has been used to analyze the data. According to the data obtained from the study: the level of elementary school teachers’ hopelessness is low. In addition to that, in the analysis of the second part of the scale which consists of General Information Form including the demographic variables of the teachers, it’s been concluded that there is not a statistically significant difference between the demographic variables some of which are the teachers’ gender, marital status, the grade of students they educate, variabilities of their families’ hometown and the level of their hopelessness. However it’s also been concluded that there is a statistically significant difference between the level of their hopelessness and some other demographic variables which are their age, educational level, seniority and the duration of working at the same school.
