This paper is intended to investigate the use of reduplication used in Hawthorne's novel “The Scarlet Letter”. It also highlights the semantic purposes of using reduplication in Hawthorne's novel . This paper aims at showing the use of reduplication in " The Scarlet Letter ". Semantically, it focuses on meaning of reduplication in the text above. It is hypothesized that: 1-Reduplication is widely used in '' The Scarlet Letter" 2-Semantically, it is expected that each reduplicative word has its own meaning in the same novel. The procedures of the present study are: 1-Presenting a theoretical idea about reduplication, their different types and levels. 2-Showing the semantic properties of reduplication and choosing texts from Hawthorne's novel “The Scarlet Letter”. After analyzing the data selected, the findings of the investigation validate all the hypotheses above.
