Cyprus, of which sovereignty was given to England with the 20h article of Lausanne Peace Treaty signed in 24 July 1923, has not been on the agenda of Turkish public opinion and government politically political ly until 1950s. One of the most important reasons of this was that there was not a discussion on the status of the island. Also Foundation studies of the new republic-founded after the Turkish War of Independence leaded by Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) - and balances that were tried to be created in domestic with foreign policy became the reasons to follow the issues, which were closed definitely such as Cyprus, in the background. However cultural and social conditions of Turkish society living in Cyprus after the foundation of Turkish Republic were continued to be followed by Ataturk’s personal directives. In the period of Ataturk, the interest on the condition of Turkish society in Cyprus had been kept through the initiatives such as making interviews with the notable of Turkish society in Cyprus, supporting some issues economically, sending Turk teachers to the schools and opening Consulate in Larnaca after Lausanne Treaty. Also politically, careful but a more sensitive policy on the tendency of Turkish society in Cyprus towards the Republic of Turkey, newly founded at the point of gaining its social and political identity in this period, had been followed. Thus newly founded Turkish Republic continued to support Turkish society in Cyprus who were one of the Turks living of the National Oath (Misak-i Milli) politically, socially and culturally. In the article this relations of Turkey with Turkish society in Cyprus in the period of Mustafa Kemal ( Atatürk ) and initiatives of Ataturk on the issue of Cyprus will be tried to be analyzed by also utilizing some archieve documents.

He gave really important political, social and cultural information about the 17th century’s Vienna at ‘Seyahatname’ that he wrote with the impression of Vienna journey which he went with Kara Mehmet Pasha. The large content of this ‘Seyahatname’ made this work extra significant and gave it an international value. Evliya Çelebi was a traveller who told the facts not only with the palace’s but also the public’s perspecpective in contradistiction to the chroniclers of the period of his period. Evliya Çelebi could write all the facts out of the palace, furthermore he gave information in different issues just like what the sultans of his period laugh at or cry. In literary, Seyahatname is the first excellent sample in its kinds; in terms of method, content and presentation features. The language he used in his work was not artfully, it was an active language which was used by the public. In this study, we tried to tell the Vienna impression on Evliya Çelebi in 17th century. Evliya Çelebi used extremely exaggerated expressions about Vienna in accordance with the diplomatic structure of the period. He also told his experience of appearing before Ceaser in a sarcastic way. Despite the strong language in his depiction, when it needed he also wrote about the knowledge, intelligence and the good sovereignty of Ceaser. In this aspect, ‘Seyahatname’ contains highly objective observations unlike the most of European travellers of the preiod.

The relations between the Ottomans-Russia started centuries ago. Many wars had taken place between these two states. Since Catherina the 2nd, Russia strived to become a global state. It tried to get the Straits, Caucasians and Balkans. Russia adopted the Pan-slavism policy to enter the hot seas and had always been in war with the Ottomans. It took a significant role in the downturn and destruction of the Ottoman State. The UK and France did not like Russia’s desire to enter the Straits and the Ottoman land. These tensions made the 1850 Crimean War inevitable. The Crimean War took place from 1853 to 1856. The Ottoman Empire, Britain, France and Sardinia fought against Russia. The war is significant in that, it was the first war that was monitored by media from the beginning till the end. Some health issues came up during the war. The long running war caused epidemic illnesses in both parties. People such as Florence Nightingale came to the front. Allies of the Ottoman State provided medical kits and human power. The Ottomans won the Crimean War with the help of its allies. This help was not unconditional. The Ottoman State signed the Treaty of Paris at the end of the war, and had to announce the Edict of Reform. Most tragically, the Ottoman State took its first foreign debt during this war and fell into the hands of the colonialist states. This study was prepared to evaluate the Crimean War and its results and to bring about a new perspective on the subject in the light of the published archive documents.
