Moving from this point, the study focuses on two major objectives; one of them is the problem of how gender role expectations, produced through intra-familial relations which are effective in the determination of subjective identities of young girls between the ages of 18-24, are transferred. The second one is to put forward through their own perspectives how young girls interpret intra-familial cultural discourses and in which contexts they reproduce the proposed definitions of femininity in the daily life. While young girls present in their accounts how they experience daily life with their perspectives, how they want to transform the space of inside home which forms the core of feminine identity has call to the future quality.
Demographic changes of last decades about the city made it necessary to handle this subject in terms of world-city system. Since 2000, almost more than the half of world’s population have been living in the cities. The cities should be taken into consideration as a whole together with all cities of the world. As most of the world’s population live in the cities and the human being share similar organizations in these cities, similar production and consumption processes, similar types of international pollutions, similar transfrontier fight against the environmental pollution all necessitates a “world city-system” for the issues of the city. There are about 200 cities on the world today. Among them, there are various relations especially in politic, economical and social life spaces. According to these relations, it is accepted that there is an international system on the world. Today, there are about 500 cities contains at least 1 million people on the world. The majority of them also have similar relations between themselves. According to this transformation, it is possible to talk about a “World City-System”. Thus, the subject has been studying since 1990’s, under various titles. In this approach, the cities which share similar economic, informatics, and cultural characteristics are examined within an interactive “system”. Some of the authors of related articles and books of limited number of experts and academics are; Peter J. Taylor, G. Catalano, D. R. F. Walker, David A.
The purpose of this study is to reveal the learning approaches and models adopted in the high school chemistry curricula in several nations. The study was based on document analysis, a qualitative study method. To conclude, it was discovered that the high school chemistry curricula in Turkey, Hessiches (Germany), Québec and Saskatchewan (Canada), France, Bénin, Spain and Greece are based on “constructivism”. Even so, the curricula in Hessiches (Germany) and Spain are also based on “life-based learning”, a branch of constructivism. The findings suggest that the curriculum in France is based on “radical constructivism”, a model of constructivism. Furthermore, it was discovered that the curriculum in Bénin is based on “cognitive constructivism” and “social constructivism” whereas the ones in Québec and Saskatchewan (Canada) are based on “life-based learning”. It was also found that the idea of “constructivism” had been put into practice in the curriculum in France. Similarly, the idea of adapting “Salter’s courses”, which are known as the earliest examples of life-based learning,” had been put into action in the curriculum in Spain. Another finding is that all the nations and states included in the study attach importance to training students in a way that will enable them to turn into “thinking” in

THE IMPORTANCE OF USAGE THE EDUCATIONAL VIDEO IN MUSICAL INSTRUMENT EDUCATION IN A WORLD WHICH HAS BEEN SURROUNDED BY SOCIAL NETWORKS

In that study, an analysis has been done to see that how methods and techniques which have been followed during musical instrument education are valid in developing technology environment of present day. It has been found out that a good musical instrument educator should use educational videos in which it can be seen both visual and auditory things together actively in universal dimensions and in traditional educational system of which general borders have been defined and in which it can be seen an education system that has been developed for nearly all each musical instrument. In receiving those images, there are some suggestions that social allocation sites which have been used commonly on internet network recently can be used actively. It is possible that musical instrument educators can prepare not only instructive and educational videos related to etude works of which teaching will be done but also they can reach video files belongs to etude works that will be taught which have been shared with different comments in different cultures and on social networks such as facebook and youtube. In that study, some information has been given that there are two different types of videos which can be used in musical instrument education on social networks and the information of how they can reach those videos in current technology has been given. There have been some ideas that it is important to prepare educational videos or get benefit of videos which have been shared in social networks in order to provide motivation on musical instrument education. Each educator should use their time efficiently and interactive learning process to make the followed process of musical instrument faster and to get a higher level success. Likewise, a system of which purpose is to remove missing points of students will be created by increasing real time motivation when teacher is not around student. In music science, it is a necessity that social networks with video dimension should be involved in education systems actively in order to give a direction to programme developing studies related to musical instrument education also there has been a result that “a new musical instrument education system” is inevitable in that period which has been surrounded by social networks.

Today, Turkish clans that are spread out a very broad geography from middle Asia to Balkans have an epic tradition, based on a long past. Some of the epical tellings are in common in Turkish clans. Some of these tellings have reached today by being told some of them in written, some both written and oral, some in only oral tradition. One of the epics, living in oral tradition and having been reached today is the epic of Köroğlu. Köroğlu has an important place in the history of Turkish culture. Köroglu term, the symbol of power, has taken its place among the large groups of people especially because it is accepted as the representative of the power which is the supportive of the oppressed.Today, Köroglu epic has appeared in two versions and developing numerous variants as a result of spreading out, evolutions and their subsidiaries, the wealth gained by means of the narrative tradition through time and place. The concept of inter-textuality is a concept put forward by some critics in the 1960’s. The concept started to be widely used after the adoption of the idea of an autonomous text. The concept, in particular so-called postmodern works of the representatives of the new book finds a wide range of applications. Inter-textuality is a theory that looks for reports of texts, written before and interrogates the possible reading kinds and ways of texts in literary texts. Inter-textuality is based on the theory that a work can not be independent from other works. A work can’t be completely original as every work is in close relationship with another work and this interaction lasts forever. In our article “The Epic of Köroğlu” is studied according to the inter-textual relationships.

In general as the press was reporting the news concerning with Phalestine as in Europa origin, on the other hand some other newspaper had spactated the incidents on the spot with the help of their own journalists who were in some cities such as Jerusalem and Cairo and then informed their readers. It was seen that journalists and columnists had kept their hands-off Phalestine issues and avorded being a party to Arab-Jew conflicts. Betweeen two World Wars, The republic of Turkey had an impartial policy to Phalestine Problem and regarded the conflicts occured in Phalestine as Britain’s internal issue.
Tanzimat constitutes the beginning of the process of westernization to the ottoman state. This is the process of westernization are intended to rescue the collapse of the state and requires radical changes in the ottoman public administration. The most important of these changes is restrengthening of the authority of the central administration with the establishment of new ministries. Also some new administrative units have been established following the example of French administrative system in the field of local governments. However these units have been largely due to the central administration fulfilling local public services. The process of starting the Tanzimat reforms is supported by the efforts of democratization periods of the first and second constitutional monarchy. Constitutional monarchy in the Ottoman Empire has put a more democratic structure. The most important in this structure is that central bureaucracy has been increasingly powerful. In general central bureaucracy includes both traditional and modern elements. Bureaucracy has a leading role reforming and constitutionalism movements. However, the bureaucratic reforms haven’t been successful. The main reason for this is that the reforms are only for improving the institutional structure and legislation. Also, reforms aren’t strongly supported by the sultans and haven’t seen widespread acceptance by the public. . For these reasons they could not create significant effect on administrative thought and culture.

The Safavids, one of the greatest Muslim dynasties, reigned over Iran and around. Sovereign of Hüseyin Mirza, the nineth emperor of this great dynasty, corresponds with the collapse period of the Safavids. Coins of this period generate the most challenging samples of the Safavid state in terms of coin form, style and variety of writings used. There are religious inscriptions on the front side of coins in line with Shi’a beliefs whereas name and title of the emperor and coin information are available on the back side. The language used on coins is Farsi instead of Arabic as different from other Islamic period coins. Two different font types appear on coins as a sulus and talik. While invocations and names of khalifas are taking part on front sides of coins, shah names and coin information take part on back sides. According to Shia belief, some phrases are seen such as “Ali is friend of Allah” along with “La-ilaha-illal-lah, Muham-madu’r-Rasulullah”. Sultan used the title of “shah” on almost all coins. On the coins of this period, printing date was given on the back side using numbers. Along with the esthetic outlook which talik font type gives, string of pearls on edge kerbs were used as essential pattern. Apart from geometrical forms, plantal ornamentation kerbs take part on contours of coins. There exist geometric and botanical ornament curbs on coin contours. The aim of the study is to propound scientific evaluations and comparisons of Safavids coins with other periods by examining, reading writings and assorting ornaments and compositions with art history discipline. Considering studies conducted about Safavid coins, it is seen that these are partakes of coin catalogues except for a few studies. These coins which are not considered much in terms of Islamic period coins will be introduced to science world generally.

With the area it contains, the depth and the variabilities it has, the Traditional Turkish Music forms a cultural wealth in history (Ay, 1988: 540). Rast maqam in Traditional Turkish Music is the fifth most frequently used maqam in TRT repertoire, one of the widest collection of Traditional Turkish Music. The aim of this study is to analyse the usage of Rast maqam intervals by using computer thecnology. The computer thecnology which has shown a great progress in recent years, is begun to be used in music dcypline researches and analysis, and it provided great opportunities to the researchers. The usage of computer spreads in music researches at thace phase of analysing the data (Erol, 2007:38). The studies which take long time, and have hard, monotonuous process steps, begun to be made in the music field and spread among the teachers by the help of the computer thecnology. In this study, 50 Rast composition which are choosen randomly are analyzed by using computer thecnology to determine the usage of Rast maqam intervals. As the result of this study, the usage of Rast maqam intervals are determined and explained with examples. According to the results of this study B2 interval to the direction of low pitched voice field is determined as the most frequently used interval, and K6 interval to the direction of low pitched voice field is determined as the least used interval of the Rast Maqam. This study is important because of displaying characteristics of Rast melodies. It is thought that this study will provide a new perspective to the researchers, composers, players, teachers and learners, and will contribute to their studies.

In the study, music considered as the most powerful tool of intercultural communication and as a common language of humanity is mentioned about with its effect on communities by defining the concepts, culture and intercultural communication. For the purpose of supporting the idea, common folk dances and music of Turkish and Greek communities in Cyprus who have managed to preserve the similar traditional structure in their lives as a result of mutual interactions even though their religion and language are different are introduced, and the similarities and differences of the music are thoroughly studied. The historical period in which the Turkish and Greek communities lived together is also referred to in order to make the communication between the two cultures clear. During this period when Cyprus was under the control of the Ottoman Empire in 1571, the common folk dances and music formed as a result of the cultural interaction between Anatolian Turks who settled in Cyprus with their culture, tradition, folk dances and music and the community living at that time in Cyprus are mentioned about as well. In the research performed with the document scanning method, the importance of music in intercultural communication is aimed to be put forward by supporting the common and various folk dancing and music samples of the Turkish and Greek communities living in Cyprus. The research which puts forward the common culture repertoire gained through music even in communities possessing different religions and languages is seen important in terms of emphasizing intercultural communication through music in order to get communities closer to each other in our present day in which globalisation and fully developed communication tools dominate.

“The Madinah Document” refers to renowned contract that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) prepared as constitution of new Islamic state after hıjrah i.e his flight from Macca to Medinah in 622 AD. This document is very important from the perspective of the history of law, because it is the first written constitution in the World. The first classical source that transported this historical document, is Ibn Hisham’s book named “al-Siratu’n-Nabawiyyah”. The writer quoted it from his teacher Ibn Ishak. In the classical soruces, this record has’nt been not arranged as articles but as a prose. For the first time, the orientalist Welhausen arranged it as 47 articles, and this form has been generalized. But, in my opinion, in this arrangement, there are some inconsistencies which prevent us to understand it correctly. On the other hand, a lot of Turkish studies, which reference to this document, have been taken from Hamidullah’s book named “Le Probhete de l’İslam” whic has been translated by Salih Tuğ from French to Turkish. However, there are some problem in the translation of some articles of the document. We tackled this study so as to attract attention to the problematic ways on the mentioned contradictoriness of that specifying style and translating.

Erosion is a natural process occurring very slowly that it is not easily understood by observation. It sometimes reaches big amount called natural hazard, especially in a country like Turkey having a young topography with steep slopes and high geomorphological amplitude. In this study Çobanlar sub-basin covers an area of 801 km² in the middle part of the 7340 km² Akarçay areic basin which is located in the Afyonkarahisar Province was investigated. Annually soil loss occurring in the Çobanlar basin was calculated by R(USLE) method using GIS and remote sensing techniques with the R (rainfall erosivity), LS (slope length and steepness), K (erodibility), C (cover and management) and P (conservation support and practice) factor layers and maps were prepared. So potential soil loss in the study area was determined using these layers and that it is 0-195 ton/ha/year. This value can be comparied to the studies carried out in other places of Turkey, points out that the Çobanlar sub-watershed is under the effect of moderate erosion risk. The reason of this result is based on erodibility of rocks such as easily eroded tuff, tuff-agglomerate and some metamorphic rocks. Beside this it was observed that erosion occurs severely around the scattering settlements in high topography in this sub-watershed.

Vocal training courses, undoubtedly, hold an important place in a systematical music education program. One of the biggest problems faced is lack of physical and mental awareness. Due to inadequate preparation, some unwanted behaviors may occur. Wrong posture, overly tense and insufficiently coordinated muscles, lack of using of breath, and many other reasons result in defects in use of voice and also looks improvised. Some students even have some vocal problems due to wrong uses and ignorantly earlier. As a consequence of the damaged vocal organ, quality of training is affected negatively. Absence of physical and mental preparation also obstructs correcting the common missuses easily, thus causes a significant loss in training process and in-class performance. The main element of vocal training, correct breathing mechanics, requires effective use of all active muscles. For those students who achieved the necessary relaxation and uses all relevant muscles in coordination, it would be easier to learn how to use their voices in a more conscious way. Those problems that might occur due to lack or absence of physical and mental relaxation moves are also seen in main courses like instrument training. Students who come to classes without applying the necessary physical and mental relaxation techniques also face some problems in playing their instruments. It can be concluded that those relaxation techniques that can be applied in a pre-class way or on a daily basis, may help eliminating the subject problems not only for vocal training courses, but also for all classes that require physical and mental awareness in all music education institutions. In this study, contemporary methods like Alexander, Feldenkrais, Linklater, Lessac, Yoga, and Meditation; which are believed to be helpful for physical and mental relaxation, are examined in the context explained above.

Although its origins may be traced back much further, the formal recognition of “international relations” as a separate discipline within the western academia dates back to the establishment of a Chair of International Relations at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, in 1919. Nearly a century passed on its establishment, but there is still no consensus on the definition of the discipline, on international system and actors and forms of relations within the system. This is mainly due to an ongoing tension between the proponents of continuity (insisting on traditional actors and their forms of relations – nation state/power relations) and proponents of change (disregarding the role of states and insisting on new types of actors and new forms of relations – NGOs, transnational corporations, etc./cooperative relations). This article argues that a comprehensive analysis of international relations and international system is the one that regards (the former two) as domains within which traditional actors, structures and forms of relations coexist with new types of actors, structures and forms of relations; within which there is the symbiosis of continuity and change. Therefore, rather than “all or nothing”, a perspective settled on “not only but also” can provide a better and more comprehensive framework to understand and explain international relations and the international system. It shall be considered that the emergence of new actors and new issues does not mean that the role of the states in the international system shall be disregarded and within the same manner the crucial role played by the states shall not overshadow the increasing role of new actors and new issues.

The “New Life” novel of Orhan Pamuk is a novel of searching for “its own consciousness” describing postmodern in the status of the consciousness of “image” and postmodern subject in the status of the false center constructed by the image consciousness. Consciousness areas with constructed false centers and the lives constructed by this consciousness area are considered as copied lives in the novel. The copied lives in the novel present the relationship between copied consciousness and bionic human. “New Life” presents the place where “the subject lost its own consciousness, the own fiction consciousness of the postmodern and the “other’s” in the status of secondary elements leaking into the consciousness of the subject and constructing it. The searching art in the novel is described as the experience of picking its own consciousness among others, purifying it and reaching to it. In this novel, chaos is its own story and consciousness interfusing in other’s area. In this novel, to put the own true and original story of the subject instead of copy and bionizm is told and the process of separation of its own truth from other’s area for this purpose is told. In New Life, memory is accepted as the only criteria in distinguishing copy and original and is placed at the center of the relation of conscience with copy and original. Memory is a personal storage that distinguishes the human from its most resembling copy and that is placed as the only criteria of personality in the process of interpreting things. Therefore, the process of copying during the creation of the subject is associated with memory in the novel. Memory is the center in which the copy takes the place of the original, personal creation becomes creating copies and where it is cleaned from the copy to reach the original during the process in which originality is lost. Therefore, New Life is the trip to find the personal memory.

Among the literary types based on narration, folk tales come after epics in terms of reflecting the worldview and imaginations of the public. Folk tales are among the literary types drawing the profound interest of primarily, western researchers, and Turkish scholars. It is accepted that to make a new definiton for folk tale is necessary since we believe that there is a lack of detailed definition on this genre despite of the fact that a plenty of studies exist on folk tales. As known well, among the great scholars of their time, Pertev Naili Boratav, Şükrü Elçin, Fikret Türkmen presented their valuable opinions about the definition of the genre of folk stories to the use of researchers. The definitions and works of these prominent scholars have had an important role in the development of the genre of folk stories and served the function of guidance for other researchers. The purpose of the present study is to come up with the definition of the genre of folk stories coveting all the features of the genre in light of the discussions presented about the definition and classification of this genre by these precious scholars. A definition, that includes genre's characteristics of creation and translation, content and function, form and structure, is made in this study. The types of the folk tale on the identification of species and general characteristics of the type of work done previously tried to make light of this definition is open to criticism. Possible criticisms can be directed towards whether the opinion described as definition and lying the basis of the present study is definition or description. The present study also seeks answer to this question. In our opinion, this method that used in definition can also be applied in defining other types of folk literature.

Old Turkish Literature is the name of a six- century literal custom of ours, which was fed by Islamic Culture, highly influenced by Persian Literature. It’s also a fact that verse came into prominence more than prose in our literature custom which was formed in time. It’s been viewed that this literature ,which will be named as the classical era of our literature , started to lose its strenght in XIX th century – especially in the second half- and was not able to train up important names who would mark the era by their own styles after this date. In order to evaluate collapse period of old Turkish Literature it is necessary to understand all literary ideas and trends of this period and social, political, cultural structure and terms of this period. With XIX century, starting of a change in state institutes and even social structure can be obviously observed . intellectuals start to interested in West now. It’s absolute that, by means of Reform Era, there had been a change in social, cultural, political fields and as a reflection of this situation in literary mean as well. Reform, will create new expression method of its own. We will feature the ideas of the poets in the first era, which were formed after a six-century custom, in our writing. All these names educated with old traditions, write poems with old methods or fed by old culture It’s important that we consider the points of view about Old Turkish Poetry of the important names both in New Literature and in Reform Era, such as Şinasi, Namık Kemal, Ziya Paşa, to better analyse the circumstances and the confliction in that era.

Bosnia and Herzegovinian territories in old maps had two corridors of access to the sea; one was in the town of Neum, on the southwest of Klek peninsula and the surrounding region while the other was Sutorina valley on southeast. From the medieval time, while it was called the Kingdom of Bosnia, till 1947 when ex Socialist Federation of Yugoslavia formed federative borders, the borders of Bosnia didn’t undergo serious changes. For more than 500 years, these two coastal areas remained under Bosnia and Herzegovina territory. After World War II, as political powers and local balances changes drastically in European continent, many things around Bosnia & Herzegovina changed as well. Such changes would have serious consequences in the future. Of course, as an indispensable element in political geography, borders represent the areas of authority for countries. When the subject is “Borders”, today in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are many borders in and around the country. These borders change the quality and stability of human geography and these borders also affect the destiny and struggle to survive for the inhabitants of the country. The borders are time and again the reason or the key element for political discordances as well. Today, Bosnia and Herzegovina has been deprived from one of its two coasts (Sutorina) which can be a possible future trade port on Adriatic coast. Now this coast is currently under the control of Montenegro. As for the other coast (Neum), there a big limitation of physical and political geography elements. Because this area neither has an effective sea port, nor a free access to the Adriatic Sea because of a densely chain of islands located nearby, bays, capes and peninsulas throughout Dalmatian coast which mostly belong to Croatia. So, Bosnia and Herzegovina is unable to use its current coast for its needs (be it trade activities and purposes such as import and export). In this work, I have been trying to indicate the coastal problems of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its consequences on the area. I have also given some solutions about this geopolitical Gordian knot.

During the reign of Suleyman the second financial and military measures were taken to stop the defeat. İn this period, 228 implementation were sent to Aleppo in two years, to make the measures applied and to overcome the problems occured in Aleppo. The most important subject of public complaints were about unfair tax demands of the tax farmer. In the sent implementation, on one hand it were stated not to tyrannise to the public and on the other hand collecting the taxes completely and sending them to the centre were demanded. Recruitment, participating of the soldiers in the province to Austrian military expedition, making the soldiers who don’t participate to expedition break up wtih military, public order incidents and the measures taken, “avârız” taxes and exemptions, the use of dough(mangır), the status of minorities were the main subjects of the correspondences between Aleppo and Istanbul. Despite the orderssent from the center of the state solutions did’nt found for the complaints of the people and unfair taxes continued to be collected. A lot of people, leaved their the houses and the village because of unfairtaxes. The families whose income worsened were exempt from Avariz taxes. The highness of number of the families who were exempted from Avariz taxes in the center of Aleppo is a indicator shows that the people who lives in rural Aleppo affected much more by the negative developments that occured that time. After a long periodcopper coins named dough were mintedorder to overcome financial hardship. After that dough predominated Aleppos’ market but couldn’t stay so long and were withdrawed from circulation.

Turkish-Greek relations have particularly had a new era of silence, peace and consensus. So as to create such a perfect atmosphere between the above-mentioned countries, foreseeing, serious and peaceful approaches of two great statesmen, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Turkey and Eleftherios Venizelos in Greece have been very dominant and influential. Greece would be the country to make mostly use of this period at most, approaching towards the end of 1930’s, and Turkey would be the first and the sole country to help Greece as soon as the WWI breaks out while the rest of the world ignores what is happening in Greece. Greece experiences, and is subjected to a period named Great Starvation Period (Megali Limos) subsequent to Italian and then Nazi invasions just after the breaking out of WWII. Taking the death of 3.000 Greek civilians a day and the total number of 3 million in 1941–1942 period into consideration especially in the highly-populated cities such as Athens and Salonika due to the starvation disaster, the tragedy itself is easily understood. It is not the UK or other European countries but only Turkey helping and giving hand to Greece during those tragic days. Turkish charity donated by Turkish postmen, deputies, fishermen, merchants, railway workers and by all manner of Turkish people are transported to Greek people by the varied types and size of the ships, boats, and the yachts up to the end of the WWII.
When the western theater, which takes its source from Europe and the conflicts of life, is observed we see there are old ages appeared. In Turkish geography, the execution area of this art which originally based on imitation, is traditional games until the Tanzimat period. Our literature, which recognized European wise theatre in Tanzimat period, perceive the world at the Westernizated point and the texts have played important and influental role in change and conversion of the society in this stage. The plays of this period can be grouped as comedies, verse dramas, romantic dramas, melodramas, emotional dramas and musical plays. Abdulhak Hâmid Tarhan who wrote Duhter-i Hindû (Desi Girl) in type of romantic drama reffering the issue of Indian, attracted the attention. A few years later, work of Keşf-i Esrâr (Discovery of the Secret) is also about the Indians under British exploitation story in the context of a love. Although the work had a weak fiction, drawn attention with its point of view which was negating the British people and stand by Indian side. The work of Keşf-i Esrâr both shows similarities between Hamid’s works by its perspective and the subject and also has allusions Hugo’s Cromwell. Inspiratons of author from Hugo and Hâmid should not be underestimated in his work which written about Indian traditions, customs, way of life and the beliefs morely accordance with the neo-Hinduism, which is canged by the effects Christian ones. In our study, we firstly present analysis of Keşf-i Esrâr, which transcripted by ourselves, then tried to find out the allusions in the work from Hâmid and Hugo and retain the place of the work in the theatre of the Tanziman period.

Subjects such as clash of civilizations, East-West opposition and Islam-Christianity opposition are still the current topics in scientific environments and publications, in the media and in the discourses of politicians. Islamophobia has extensively been on the front burner and has been expanding in the West, after the September 11 incidents. This study aims at comparing the view points Poland’s university students who live in a country which is a member of the European union, is a part of the Western civilization and is a Christian society with the view points of Turkish students whose country has been struggling to be a member of the European Union, carry the cultural and identity heritage acquired from the Ottoman Empire and in this aspect is a part of the Eastern civilization, while being an Islamic society despite the fact that Turkey has entered a period of Westernization (even this period is the main indication of the fact that Turkey is different from the West and that it is a society outside the Western civilization) and determining the marks of the clash of civilizations, East-West opposition, Islam-Christianity opposition and Islamophobia through the various differences in the view points of the two countries’ youth towards the European Union. The survey was given to the students of both universities by speaking to them face to face and as a random sampling. 411 surveys were given to the Adam Mickiewicz University students and 439 surveys were given to Cumhuriyet University students, making a total of 850 surveys. The surveys were changed into tables as the data was evaluated with the SPSS analysis program. The hypothesis of the study is: It is expected that the view points of the two university youth, who do have different cultural and religious structures, towards the European Union to be different as well. The differences of the view points of Turkish and Polish youth towards Turkey’s candidacy to the European Union is expected to carry the marks of clash of civilizations, East-West opposition, Islam-Christianity opposition and Islamophobia. Result of the study: It has been established that a majority of the Turkish students have a negative view of the EU and that they do not support Turkey’s membership to the EU. There are two main reasons why they do not support Turkey’s membership. The first reason is that, they see the EU as a different structure religiously and culturally. Secondly, they do not trust the EU, since Turkey’s membership pro

Communities’ existing their presences on cultural, military and economical areas, their having a respectable position and authority all around the world ,are the leading desired issues. This is possible with children’s and youth’s, who are future of that nation, being aware of their own history, cultural property and their ancestors who brought these into being. The most important role on connection between the past and the future are undoubtedly written records. Orkhon Inscriptions, the first written records of our community, forms the primary source of military and government management. One of the most significant example among these kinds of 20 th century texts, is Atatürk’s “Address to youth” . These speeches are reflection of Orkhon Inscriptions in many aspects. The aim of this research is; analysing both of these texts by comparing, in order to help to make them clear for transferring to next generations, because these two speeches have many similarities such as subject and verbalism technique. In the end many similarities are found between these two speeches. They are; requirements that Turkish people have to do so as to protect their existence and unity, events that they have to deal with against inner and outer enemies and necessisty of sacrifice for the sake of independency. By basing on these information, various suggestions are offered for researchers and teachers to examine and teach the speeches.

In this study,we will make an attempt to analyse comparatively two works of art, which were written in the transition period from romance to realism in Russian and Turkish literature by the two master authors, who pioneered with their own understanding of art. In this context, our work will examine the subject, character and similarities and differences in social living in Pushkin's "Mistress into Maid" story and H. R. Gurpinar's "The Marriage Under A Comet" novel. Although there are no exact similarities in the life stories and in the social status of Pushkin and Huseyin Rahmi, one thing that unites them is ground-breaking innovations in community life that they accomplished through their art. Pushkin is the first artist who brings in the authentic identity and national character into the Russian literature. Being an Istanbul author and choosing only this city as a venue to his works, Huseyin Rahmi, just as Pushkin, aims to address to common class and stands for language simplification of the period. In the Turkish and Russian societies on the spur of the moment of the transition from romanticism to realism and in the highlight the national literature both Pushkin and Huseyin Rahmi are imperiously undisputed masters. Above mentioned works carry the great deal of importance for the reason of bringing to the meeting point two great writers of two different nations. Aim of the study is to reveal cultural similarities and differences in terms of subject and character descriptions by considering two different works of art, that was written in two different countries at different times, and, also, to show the path followed by the two different authors to reach the same aim.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of budgetary participation on managers’ budget goal commitment, work-related information and job satisfaction. For this purpose, the data is gathered via questionnaire applied to 104 managers working in various levels in the medium and large-sized enterprises which are mostly in automotive industry and operate in the Marmara Region. In order to test the hypotheses of this study, correlation and regression analyses were performed. Results of correlation analysis revealed that all variables are significant and positively related to each other. The results of regression analyses show that budgetary participation has statistically significant and positive impact on managers’ budget goal commitment and work-related information. Results also reveal that budget goal commitment and work-related information has statistically significant and positive impact on job satisfaction. It is seen that budgetary participation has not direct statistically significant and positive impact on job satisfaction. However, the impact of budgetary participation on job satisfaction is transmitted by budget goal commitment and work-related information variables. Although budgetary participation has statistically significant and positive impact on job satisfaction, when budget goal commitment and work-related information are included to the multiple regressions separately and together, this impact is shaded. These results prove that budget goal commitment and work-related information have perfect mediation effect between budgetary participation and job satisfaction.

Learner-centred education perspectives gained greater importance with the new curriculum put into practice as a result of the constructivist education in our country in the 2005–2006 academic year. Several modifications have been made to the curriculum on the basis of project-based learning, in terms of the aim, content, educational background, and assessment and evaluation dimensions. Project evaluation approach has become prominent, together with other evaluation methods, in assessment and evaluation applications too, because of the greater importance attached to the learning process. The aim of this research was to find out learner opinions regarding the project assignments which were performed in the course of university-school collaboration. With this aim in mind and having reviewed the literature, the researchers developed a 14-item open-ended questionnaire form and administered it to totally 30 students - 16 male and 14 female - in Grade 4 in the 2009–2010 education-instruction year. The students were asked to express their opinions regarding the project studies they realised throughout the year with 20 teacher candidates in the 3rd year of Primary School Teaching program of Uludağ University Education Faculty. In this descriptive research study, opinions of the students were examined and categorised using the content analysis method, separately by the two researchers. The findings indicated that the primary school students expressed positive opinions related to the process. While a majority of the students stated that the studies had been beneficial for them, all the students stated that they had received support from the teacher candidates and that they had collaborated with other groups on various issues. The student participants also stated that their parents had positive opinions on the project studies, that they were supported by their parents on various issues, and that their parents would like their children to participate in a new project too.

Nowadays, considerable changes are taking place within mathematics education as to what mathematics is and how it should be taught. With the changing perspective in education, a shift has occurred from conveying the existing knowledge to showing ways to reach educational knowledge in teacher-student relationships. Therefore, well-trained teachers play a crucial role in the education system. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between mathematics teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge and mathematical content knowledge. 41 mathematics teachers took part in this study and the qualitative research design was applied. In this framework, eight open-ended questions were asked for data gathering purposes. Data was gathered from semi-structured interviews and teachers' written explanations. The content and descriptive analysis method was used for data analysis. According to the data, there was a relationship between teachers’ mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge. The results of the study showed that most of the teachers’ knowledge of mathematics was inadequate for teaching mathematics in some areas and that teachers’ instructional explanations were in the form of a restatement of the procedures. It was concluded that few teachers’ instructional explanations about some mathematics statements were at a conceptual (content, epistemic or problem-solving levels) level and most of the teachers’ of mathematics content knowledge at this level was correct.

The aim of this study is to examine the number sense strategies used by 6th grade students during solving percent problems. Number sense is the ability of flexible applying number and operation information in mathematical cases. The students use benchmark, round off numbers and approximately guess the numbers, compose/decompose the numbers without the written operations or rules in order to find the result using number sense ability. A total of 30 (15 male, 15 female) 6th grade students from a preliminary school in the province Sakarya participated in this study. A test consisting of 8percent problems are used as the data collecting instrument. The students are asked to explain their solution method after having solved the problems. In data analysis, at first the answers are examined and it is decided that the answers are right or wrong. In the second part of data analysis, the strategy the student used is determined. The strategies are coded as number sense based, rule based and answer given or not. By examining their solution methods, it is determined whether the strategies they used were number sense based or rule based. As a result of the analysis, it is revealed that 60 (25%) of the solution methods used by 30 students to the 8 questions were number sense based and 138 (57,5%) were rule based. This result has shown that the students, participated to the study, are tended to use rule based strategies and cannot use number sense strategies sufficiently while solving percent problems.

The Yasawi Shrine was built by Timur in 1397 to honour Khawaja Ahmad Yasawi 230 years after his death in Turkestan. Today when you visit the city of Turkestan (Yasi) in Kazakhstan, you can sense a feeling of eternity inspired by the gigantic building. The structure’s significance comes from the importance attributed to the Sufi Sheikh Khawaja Ahmad Yasawi. This building symbolises both the spiritual power of Yasawi and the worldly reign of Timur and the Eurasian steppes. The subject of this paper is the doorknockers on the entrance door of this shrine. The aim of this study is not only to examine the doorknockers but also to expose their place in Timurid art. Accordingly, the doorknockers will be analyzed from an artistic perspective, and the iconographic descriptions will illustrate how Timur understood symbolism in art. As an integrative and comparative study, this paper examines several sources of Timur’s political and art history, the iconography of Buddhism and Islam which were dominant in the region, Yasawi Sufi thought and Ahmad Yasawi’s poetry. Also included are comparisons of the miniatures, wooden artworks and architecture. This research shows Timur’s artistic powerful and far-reaching influence as it was reflected in the massive Ahmad Yasawi Shrine and in its smallest art works like the doorknockers.

Department of Computer and Instructional Technologies Education (BÖTE) accept students both from general high schools and related departments of vocational high schools. Since vocational high school graduates took some computer courses during their high school education they are expected to be more successful in computer related technical courses than the general high school graduates during their undergraduate education. Thus, general high schools graduates are anxious about their success in computer related technical courses which negatively affect their status of self-efficacy. Tiredness, pessimism, stress, anxiety and etc. which are called as “psychological status” are among the elements affecting level of self-efficacy. Self-efficacy and psychological status are interrelated affecting each other. So, validity and affects of these anxieties of students on their grades in this type of courses are to be examined in this study. In this context, courses are grouped in to two categories; “technical computer courses” and “other courses”. Correlational research design applied in this study and mean scores of students in both groups are compared in order to explore the relationship between high school type and grades taken. Gender and instruction type (day or evening) are other independent variables taken into consideration.

An important part of Turkish Syrians whose population has decreased quite well these days has been living basicly in Mardin and Midyat, the region called as “Tur Abdin”. In the North Hasankeyf, in the North-East Siirt, in the East Cizre, in the South Nusaybin, in the West Mardin and in the North-West Savur make the borders of Tur Abdin when Midyat was taken as the centre. According to the information obtained in 2005, approximately 2000 Syrian population lives in Tur Abdin region. It is not possible to give exact population information since some Syrians in Turkey and abroad have been returning their homelands for certain or seasonal recently. However, the number mentioned above is very close to the exact number because it is based on the information given by Syrian people as source in 2005. Of this population, about 1200 inhabits in Midyat, Dargeçit and Idil, about 400 inhabits in Nusaybin and about 400 of this population inhabits in Mardin. Apart from these, 3 families live in Dereici (Kıllıt) village connected to Savur and 1 family live in the town centre of Omerli. According to the Syrian belief, marriage is one of the seven holly secrets of Syrian Church which they come together in a holly way with the fertility of special prayers, come side by side and which they belong to in order to make the generation of faithful women and men continue. Marriage is a natural law which God established in the beginning of world by saying in Holly Bible “It is not convenient Adam be alone, so I will create a suitable assistant for him” (Genesis, 2.18). In modern times, different incentives cause the religion and traditional way of living to change, to erode or even to be lost. In the case with Syrians whose origins go back thousands of years, although they go on challenging the effect of modernity with the reasons coming from the dependence on the church authority and ethnic belonging, some issues face change. As will be pointed out below, getting married with a person of another religion, getting

The aim of this study is to analyze the translation equivalence of language plays in Turkish translation of Patrick Süskind’s novel “Das Parfum”. While analysing some parts of the novel, the translation was found fairly succesfull in the linguistic and denotativ level but some translation equivalence problems occur in the transfer of language plays. The reason of these equivalence problems is word for word translations from source language to target language. Some suggestions to solve these equivalence problems were made by taking into account the dependence on context and characteristics of target language.

This research aims at analysing of postgraduate dissertations on viola written in Turkish Universities based on the criteria determined from the structural and qualitative perspectives. Due to the fact that the current study aims to describe the post-graduate theses written about viola, the research is designed in the survey model. The research population was composed of postgraduate dissertations on viola that had been written in Turkish Universities while the research sample was composed of the theses reached by the researcher in the theses database available in the Turkish Board of Higher Education. Thus, 38 dissertations written since 1994 on viola, that were reached by the researcher, were analysed in this research. For the purposes of data collection, the relevant field literature was reviewed and expert opinions were obtained, and thus “the form for thesis analysis” was developed. The information concerning each thesis was recorded on this form. The technique of document analysis was used for the evaluation of the theses. Quantitative distribution by years, fields of study, and the classification of the study models were specified as the basic dimensions in the analysis. Content analysis – one of the categorical data analysis techniques – was used in the analysis of the data. Consequently, it was found that the highest number of post-graduate theses was prepared in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, 23 of them were written by male students whereas 15 were written by female students, and that the survey model was employed in all of the theses. In the light of the findings of the evaluation of those theses from the structural and qalitative perspectives, recommendations were made as to the need to increase the number of theses to contribute to the field of viola and as to conducting mixed (empirical and survey) model research studies beside the descriptive model in this field.

The purpose of this study is to examine the academic writing literature at the tertiary level. As English uninterruptedly expands as the leading language for dissemination of academic knowledge then the question of writing effectively and in expected ways causes considerable challenges to students requiring graduates to learn to master and so as to succeed in the academia. Many Turkish students until embarking on their graduate studies appear not to have learned how to write systematically and gained adequate writing experiences except being instructed to be grammatically correct and writing in certain number of paragraphs. Unlike free writing and narrative expression, academic writing requires students to adopt a different kind of language forcing them to master the transition from common to academic language. Writers who cannot conform to the conventions and norms of academic language can hardly be recognized in the academic world. To provide the right words in English to express ideas appropriately and accurately is a pervasive difficulty for many EFL/ESL writers due to partly L2 writers’ dependence on the translation of their native language into the English or cultural differences between two languages’ modes of expression. Therefore, explicit academic writing instruction both in L1 and L2 in educational life is suggested.

EUROPEAN CHARTER FOR AUTONOMY AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS DISCUSSIONS OF LOCAL AUTONOMY IN TURKEY

Local autonomy can be accepted as an expression which states that local governments would act liberally from the central government in terms of economy, administration, and politics; but all in definite boundaries. These boundaries are defined by the central government, nevertheless give the local governments a quite wide range of freedom to act. It is a necessity of the term “local autonomy” to decrease the control over local governments through the limited levels. Therefore, the central government should give up on the understanding that is based on guardianship over local governments, and its space of supervision must be on some specific legal issues. Otherwise, an under-control local government, which mostly acts under the control of the central government, is faced. The autonomy of local governments is one of the matters on which is placed great emphasis as far as the theory of local government and its practice are concerned. Today, in many developed and developing countries, a number of reforms, one of which is concerned with local government, have been made for the improvement of democracy and the provision of efficient public service. Local goverments are charged with important functions or responsibilities by the regulations related to the reforms of local governments. After the discussions related to the narrowness and width of the range of action for local governments within the academic and intellectual neighboırhood, the importance of local governments, especially of the municipalities, has risen in Turkey and all around the world. All the discussions over globalization and democratisation, slide onto the local governments directly, and they get shaped on the base of local autonomy. The economic and social evolution, especially during the 1980s, changed the understanding of the local autonomy significantly. In this study, the debates over local autonomy in Turkey are examined in two parts; such as before and after the 1980s.

Humans, who continually exchange information with their environment, have always tried to create visual communication media that we come face to face all the time in order to communicate since the beginning of history and have used lots of signs. These media that have continued up to our date and made communication possible since the functional pictures drawn on cave walls have emerged from various needs and have made their ways to our date. The people of our day have developed communication systems that consist of signs, pictograms and symbols in order to keep up with the technological systems that come to being within social life and to provide universally effective communication. The visual communication symbols used in these communication systems are very important in that they help people understand each other and make their lives easier by having more effective communication. When the common instinctiveness in people’s perception and behavior styles are examined, it can be said that people show the same perception and behavior styles for many events, situations, colors and forms. Within this context; signs, pictograms and symbols pass on information to put together thoughts and lives in terms of their roles in learning process. However; these signs and symbols can have different meanings in terms of their areas of usage because of cultural differences between people and they can cause lack of communication or undesired negative situations because of lack of perception. This study aims to investigate the effects of the meanings of signs, pictograms and symbols on human behavior with regard to their areas of usage and to assess them on semiotic, semantic, syntactic and pragmatic levels.

Though banned in both Islamic criminal Law and Ottoman criminal law, alcoholic beverages were consumed by different sections of the society in Ottoman land. There are many cases going into the recordings of local courts in relation to alcohol consumption. Moreover, in some of the cases of violation of public order, the defendants were found to be drunk. The pecuniary penalties collected from the defendants of such cases by the authorities who were in charge of maintaining the public order in the Ottoman state constituted an important source of revenue. The state government made decisions from time to time to close down the places where alcohol was consumed. But, the presence of non-Muslim population in cities, taxes collected from the pubs and alcohol production by the state hindered the governments from banning the consumption of alcohol. The present study covers 16th century as a period. Archive recordings reflecting both the position of the central government and local governments were used as resources. The purpose of the presents study is to reveal the prevalence of the crime of alcohol consumption, its legal dimension and the position of the central government in 16th century Ottoman society.

Linear programming is an area of linear algebra in which the goal is to maximize or minimize a linear function whose boundary is defined by linear inequalities and equations. The solution can be consructed using the simplex method and is attributed to George Dantzig known as The Father of Linear Programming. The solution of linear programming problems is possible to using by graffical method or simplex method. Optimum solition in graffical method related to the edge of the feasible region. Simplex method is also depend on this essential idea. Whith an another statement, Although simplex method is an algebrical method the essential idea it’s depend on geometrical. In the case of the number of variable two the solition of the model is possible using whith the grafical method. İf the number of variable more than two then this method is not use. Simplex method can be use both whith two varible and more. Whith simplex method objective function is aimed to be maximize or minimize by usin iterational processes.
Classic cinema theorists engorge with two traditions: formalist and realist. We see the reality at the starting point of both forms. Formalist tradition says that cinema must reconstruct the reality by intervening into the reality and commenting it because according to formalist tradition, it’s impossible to reflect the reality. Realist tradition says that cinema can reflect the substantial objectively without intervening into the reality. The important representatives of this tradition are Kracauer and Bazin. Cinema in Turkey mostly engorges with oral literature such as tale, saga, folk dances and this circumstance hinders cinema in Turkey from proceeding in the way of reality. It is known that cinema in Turkey has losen notably time to find its own reality. It is determined that some directors have tried to reflect the reality in the society with all faults in their films and they have engorged with realist tradition in terms of form and meaning since the middle of 1990s. Most directors such as Nuri Bilge Ceylan, SemihKaplanoğlu, DervişZaim who make their names with particularly minimal cinema can be analyzed with this theoretical point view. ÖzcanAlper is one of the young directors and his film named Sonbahar (2008) is worthy of consideration as one of the films in this tradition. The theory providing a film to be understood in the rights way offer a common language and background to reviewers, directors and onlookers. This study engorges with realist approach at the point of this common language. It is also aimed to trace the realist cinema in Turkey with Sonbahar through the theoretical pointview of Kracauer specifically. In this context, after the reality in cinema is defined, the relation between cinema and reality in Turkey is going to be assessed. Semiotic method is going to be used in the analysis of the film. As a result, the basic narration Kracauer states, the found story, photographic image, the perception of objective reality take part in the filmic narration of Sonbahar.

A interdisciplinary aproach has been seen obviously in all areas since second half of the last century. Among these areas, art and fashion have gone on two area interacting quite. The culture industry concept which is based on The Frankfurt School regarded culture as an industry and all cultural artifacts as commodities. Art and fashion have been joined in this commodity group. Consumption has surpassed production in postmodern era when culture has been commodified and continuous being on displayed of cultural artifacts via mass media in order to easily reach to consumers has aggrandized popular culture. The culture industry which emphasized profit-minded a society brought the concepts as consumption society, mass culture, popular culture, commodification and commodity aesthetic into the forefront.
