In this study, the relationships between the conditions of the classes in which the teachers teach (technical equipment, population of the class, heating type, etc.) and perceived teacher competence have been examined. This study has been conducted with 161 male and 111 female, in total 272 teachers working in Adıyaman. SPSS programme has been used to analyse the data. According to the obtained data, meaningful differences have been seen between teacher competences in terms of classroom conditions. Considerable differences have been seen in terms of gender of teachers. Female teachers feel more qualified than male teachers in terms of perceived competence of teachers. According to the research, class conditions, like lighting of class, creates meaningful differences on competence of teachers. If the class conditions are sufficient, the teacher will feel more competent. Also, current status of the class and heating system of class has caused important differences at perceived competence of teachers. The teachers who conduct the educational process in classes heated by central heating system feel themselves more competent than the others who use stove in their classes. In a study conducted in terms of the physical conditions of the class, significant differences have occurred at perceived competence of teachers. Teacher effectiveness varies according to the conditions of the class. To sum up, the physical conditions of the classes should be improved considering the opinions of teachers.

Technological and scientific developments in the 19th and 20th-century caused to redefine the terms such as metaphysic, entity, reality, and relativity. One of the terms is 'time' which is handled and redefined in this period. Henri Bergson (1859-1941) who influenced a lot of people with his studies and his time philosophy has an important position. Bergson explains the ‘time entity’ with the terms like pure time, homogeneous time- nonhomogenous time, internal time. He leads to question the traditional methods and to seek the new ways of narration methods. A lot of modernist authors in literature had been influenced by Bergson’s time philosophy and they gave great importance Bergson's time philosophy in their works. In this study, we analyze the influence of Bergson's time philosophy comparing, on William Faulkner (1897-1962) in modern American literature and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar (1901-1962) in 20th-century Turkish literature. The novels, Faulkner’s The Sound and The Fury (1929) and Tanpınar’s Huzur (1949); were researched and revealed characteristics of Bergson’s time philosophy and its innovations. Then the reflections of these innovations in Faulkner’s and Tanpınar’s novels which we chose as the subjects of our study were examined.

This study examined the relationship between university students’ attitudes toward seeking psychological help with respect to their personality traits. The study was conducted with 1132 students of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades studying at various departments at Ondokuz Mayıs University. The study used the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised Short Version, adapted into Turkish by Karancı, Dirik and Yorulmaz (2007) to identify the personal traits of students, and the Attitudes Toward Seeking Psychological Help Scale-Short Version developed (1997) and revised (2004) by Türküm to examine student’s attitudes toward seeking psychological help. The Spearman correlation coefficient was used due to the non-parametric distribution of data. The findings indicated that as students’ scores of the extraversion dimension of personality increased, so did their level of attitudes toward seeking psychological help. On the contrary, while students’ scores of the psychoticism dimension of personality decreased, their level of attitudes toward seeking psychological help increased. No statistically significant relationship was found between the neuroticism dimension of personality and their attitudes toward seeking psychological help. Finally, as students’ scores of the lie dimension of personality increased, so did their level of attitudes toward seeking psychological help.

The study is purposed to reveal the relationship between environmental thought and environmental behavior of university students with the recommended research model. For this purpose, in May 2015, a survey is applied face to face to 431 randomly selected students, who are studying in Dumlupinar University. “Environmental Thought and Behavior Scale” is used on this study as a data collecting tool. Before the application of the scale, a group of 50 students is selected and the survey is applied on them to determine if the questions can be understood or not. Then several questions are removed from the survey or corrected. Afterwards to test the relaibility of the measurement tool, a relaibility analysis is conducted and the Cronbach Alpha confidence interval is calculated as 0.881. Structural Equation Model is used to investigate the effect of environmental thoughts of university students on their environmental behaviors and the consistency of the model. Also t and ANOVA tests are conducted to measure if the mean scores of environmental thoughts and environmental behaviors of the students show demographic differences or not. It is decided that the environmental thought independent latent variable has a positive effect on environmental behavior dependant latent variable as the result of SEM analysis. Correlation coefficient between environmental thought and behavior is found as 0.74. It is determined that there are statistically significant differences among faculties for mean scores of environmental thought and there are differences among sex and mother’s education level for mean scores of environmental behavior.

THE SOCIOLOGY OF ISLAM AS A PROBLEMATIC

With its blurred image Sociology of Islam having always discussions from the name and the subject to the method and the approach has a problamatic structure today. It is may be said that the most important reason of this situation is its newly being in establishment phase. Especially while New Religious Movements’ being a popular topic in the West is setting off the discussions of The Sosciology of Islam, increaisng of the influence of Post-modern paradigm has made it a problematic discussion. In this article, we aim to indicate the broad lines of the framework of The Sociology of Islam in the context of discussions on the points mentioned above. We suggest these names; Sociology of Islam, Islamic Sociology, Islamist Sociology, Depth Sociology, Sociology of Wisdom. When we look at its topic we can say that it is not complex. It is a different point of view in here that Sociology of Islam can be applied to the other societies apart from the Müslims. Although it is referred to the new methodology approaches in the title of metadology, in this sense, we think that rationality of the methodology will benefit from the methodology of social science methodology. According to the name, subject and methodology it is clear that there are some approaches forming the social sciences. In this study, the main determinant issue is the title of 'approach' and the basis of the Sociology of Islam discussions are also focused on here. As an extension of separation of Religion-Science, the Fact-Value dichotomy makes it necessary to emphasize on the approach. The lack of text, according to us is the weakest point of the sociology of Islam, is discussed in the last title. The general framework we reach on the upshot is our thought and it is not an accuracy expression by all means.

Residences built or have built by human being as shelters in which they feel safe passed through a definite development process beginning from prehistoric period until today. Living spaces transforming from caves into apartments showed a change according to counties, geographies and cultures. It is observed when looking at residence culture Anatolian geography of the Turks who come from migrant culture and are accustomed to tent life that process beginning from separate houses goes back to multi-storey residences. Istanbul has a characteristic of being a leading city with its apartments within the process when there was a transition from Traditional Turkish residence architecture to modern living spaces. Zoning studies and residential constructions initiated in the country after proclamation of the Republic gained speed in Istanbul and continued until today. Residences built in Istanbul between the years of 1923-1940 started to be shaped in new style according to changing conditions and order of the day while also being planned in accordance with traditional opinion and life style. This attitude is observed in apartments as much as in separate houses. As it is known, first samples of today’s apartments started to be built in Istanbul in the Ottoman Empire Period (XIXth century), and multi-storey residence construction that is observed in the cities where non-Muslim citizens reside spread to the entire city after proclamation of the Republic. In this study, residence architecture formation will be looked at within the process starting from the prehistoric period until ancient ages, and then development process of Turkish residence architecture will be explained shortly with plan schemes.

Tabarî, who devoted a big part of his long life -approximately ninety years- to the Islamic sciences, educated himself on all Islamic sciences and came out with precious, original and voluminous works on this field. He got interested with a high enthusiasm in jurisprudence, completed his jurisprudence education by particaipating to the numerious teachers’ lessons in Baghdad and became an important jurist and imam of the Madhhab Cerîriyya. When treating the controversial topics on the jurisprudence Tabarî interweave them if it is possible but if it isn’t possible to interweave them he generally chooses the view which is the easiest one for the community. When we examine his preferences about the controversial topics, we notice that he keeps in mind the objective of the sharia and accordingly he supports that facilitating the rules of sharia is the right attitude at this point. And also when examining the abrogation, he rejects the claims of abrogation in the verses in question as long as it is possible to interpret and integrate the abrogator and abrogated verses in a way or other. But if this is not possible he accepts the claims about abrogation. Because in his opinion, in order to claim that a verse is abrogator and an other is abrogated, a complete contradiction must occur between these verses and it must not be possible to interpret and integrate them in way or other to make their rules relevent. That is way, in his exegesis, he proved that a lot of verses which were claimed to be abrogated actually are not abrogated. So, the aim of this article is to show Tabarî’s method of jurisprudence and his abrogation approach through his methodology accompanied by examples.

This article investigated Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Tefekkur is presented as a system of combined thinking skills including reflective thinking, crea-tive thinking, inquiry guided thinking, and relevance spot. Amendments were sug-gested to Turkish literature regarding understanding and meanings of both critical thinking and creative thinking. Inquiry guided thinking was also studied. Relevance Spot was presented as an explanation method for findings and processes of Tefekkur Triangle. Findings related to subheadings of Tefekkur Triangle (Critical Thinking, In-quiry Guided Thinking, and Reflective Thinking) and emmergence of Creative Think-ing in Turkish and English educational settings that can be retrieved were presented. Findings from Turkish context revealed scores of medium degree and lower. ‘School Direct’, a recent programme implemented in the English teacher education system, was explored in order to show how it cannot be applied into Turkish context. Relevant arti-cles and research about Turkey and England that could be retrieved were taken into ac-count. Research results on subheadings of Tefekkur Triangle and PISA findings were discussed comparing the scores of Turkey and England. It was highlighted that even if ‘School Direct’ programme becomes successful in England, because HOTS level of teacher candidates in Turkey is insufficient and below England, implementing this programme in Turkey at any type of teacher education may cause a decline in quality of Turkish teachers. Thus, possibility of affecting teacher education in Turkey deeply in a negative way may also diminish both teacher quality and the quality of student learning.

The Üç Kök (1958), Kara Gözler (1966) and Elmas Kemer (1976) novels of Kadirov who wrote 6 novels have social subjects. In Üç Kök novel the problems faced in universities and people using their authority for their benefits, in Kara Gözler novel, the negative effects of kolhoz and sovhoz system on community and in Elmas Kemer the harm given to environment by urbanization are emphasized. Kadirov who well analyzed the socio-cultural problems of his period reflected what he wanted to explain to his novels. He focused especially on history and history consciousness themes in order to prevent Uzbek community, which stayed under Soviet regime pressure for long years, to split from its past. Again it is possible to mention about communism and Leninism in background of his novels as a result of Soviet government policies. Although love theme which was used in all three novels stayed in the background, it is used to explain women-men relations.

The concept of virginity has always been the locus of hot debates and discussions throughout the history. It holds true to say that the norm of virginity has a profound impact on women’s sexuality and their social lives since virginity has become a visible tenet of our lives through the institutionalization of patriarchal power on female body. Although losing virginity is a conceptual thing, the consequences and underlying implications of this action are clearly seen in the society which proves that the concept of virginity is socially constructed and it is manipulated by patriarchy to control female sexuality and their bodily activities. This study aims to investigate the concepts of sex and gender in order to understand how virginity is socially constructed and point out the ways through which the norm of virginity has been continuously embodied via the patriarchal language, virginity tests and laws in Turkey. Since Turkey stands out among other Islamic countries with its emphasis on secularism but also being influenced by Islamic traditions, the norm of virginity is elaborated with regard to the prevalent discourses in the country. Therefore the key terms of the study is analyzed through the terminology of feminist and Islamic feminist theory. As a result, it is found that “virginity” means family honor, social constraints on female body, celebration of men and the prioritization of societal values over i

Today, law enforcement and security service is of great importance to live together in peace and for the prosperity of the community. If the quality of law enforcement services has high level, peace and stability within the country will also increase. In this study, it is aimed to provide decision support in order to improve the quality of service of vehicles, which can be used more effectively in assignments district. Within this framework, in order to support decision-making process and re-evaluation of the decisions in motor vehicle assignments of law enforcement units, a new methodology was developed after a series of meetings with specialists. The methodology requires simultaneous utilization of mathematical programming and multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model. Mathematical model enables vehicle-assignment decisions by increasing the efficiency of the service, rendering efficient utilization of the technical capacity, and minimizing the expenditure. To calculate -performance value of the vehicles-, which is one of the inputs of mathematical model, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a technique in MCDM, and The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) were used integrated. The application of AHP and TOPSIS methods specified "performance criteria units" and "assignment performance values" of each vehicle for each city respectively. The solution results of the proposed model are compared to the current situation. The performance of the assignments has increased 12,42% with the proposed model. In Turkey, there is not any scientific based decision-making support system as yet, which can be used by law enforcement units on deciding assignments of motor vehicles to relevant cities. Moreover, it is envisaged that the suggested methodology will be used widely and frequently since we have not met a methodology or a standard as to vehicle assignments in both domestic and foreign literature and documents of law enforcement units.

A new trade theory which is suggested at the end of 1970’s is an important development in international trade area. A main facility of new trade theories have left pure competition and steady returns to scale which was a main assumption in traditional trade theories. New trade theories accepted a main assumption of increasing returns to scale and imperfect market analysis. The main reason of calling “new” is mathematical explanation of foreign trade theories including economies of scale and imperfect market frame has made at the end of 1970’s. New trade theories bring up a lot of important questions again likewise reason of foreign trade, determination of international specialization tend, profitability of foreign trade, influence of protectionism etc. The answers which are given under the assumptions of increasing returns to scale and imperfect market give a new dimension to foreign trade theories. In this article factors in the emergence of new trade theory will be explained in chapter I and new foreign theories will be explained in chapter II. In first chapter, traditional theory deficiencies will be explained, and criticism against the assumptions of the traditional theory will be made. Factor that requires a revision of the traditional theory is expressed. In second chapter, monopolistic competition in international trade theory and its concept, assumptions, variables, and mechanism is illustrated. In continue of the article, product cycle theory, preference similarity theory, and its assumption, definition, and classification is made. Technology Gap theory and qualified labor theory are explained. The understanding of these theories is important to perceive the variation between traditional trade theory and new trade theories and this give a new perspective the literature.

Energy resources play a very important role on today’s world. The main reason of the majority of wars and conflicts in the world is the struggle to have energy resources. It is not interesting that current and ongoing wars have been happening in the land of countries which have rich energy resources. It is a fact that energy policy plays an important way in not only developing countries but also in Turkey. Turkey’s energy demand has been increasingly growing as a result of rapid urbanization and industrialization process. Turkey’s energy policy, in particular nuclear energy policy has been discussed by both the public and the media. While one group claims that potential environmental effects of nuclear energy may threaten all human beings in the world, other group points out that nuclear energy is the only solution to growing demand for energy; and growing economies, such as China and United States, meet their energy demands with nuclear energy. However, these two opposite opinion ignores the probability of terrorist attacks to the nuclear power stations and its potential social, political economic impacts on the country. The main purpose of this research is to discuss security risks of potential terrorist attacks to the nuclear power stations which have been planned to built into Turkey.
