KARİKATÜRLE ÖĞRETİMİN 7. SINIF ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN TAM SAYILAR KONUSUNDAKİ BAŞARILARINA VE KALICILIK DÜZEYLERİNE ETKİSİ

Abstract
Bu araştırmanın amacı, karikatürle öğretimin 7.sınıf öğrencilerinin tamsayılar konusundaki başarılarına ve kalıcılık düzeylerine etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2007-2008 eğitim-öğretim yılında Bolu ilindeki bir ilköğretim okulunun 7. sınıflarında okuyan 61 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın gerçekleşmesinde yarı deneysel kontrol gruplu ön test-son test modelinden yararlanılmıştır. Kontrol grubunda tamsayılar konusu geleneksel yöntemle işlenirken, deney grubunda konunun kazanımları doğrultusunda geliştirilen on yedi adet karikatür kullanılarak işlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin sosyal öğrenme ortamı oluşturarak kavramları daha derinlemesine tartışma ve kendi düşünme kalıplarını sorgulayabilmeleri için aynı düşünceyi paylaşan öğrencilerden meydana gelen dörder kişilik homojen gruplardan yararlanılmıştır. Altı hafta süren uygulama sürecindeki araştırma verileri “Matematik Başarı Testi” ve uygulama süreci hakkında öğrencilerin yazılı görüşlerinden elde edilmiştir. Matematik Başarı Testi, gruplara ön-son test ve uygulama bitiminden on hafta sonra da kalıcılık testi olarak kullanılmıştır Toplanan nicel veriler bağımlı ve bağımsız örneklemler t-testi ile nitel veriler ise betimsel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda karikatürlerle öğretimin geleneksel öğretime göre öğrencilerin matematik başarıları ve kalıcılık düzeyleri bakımından daha etkili olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerden alınan yazılı görüşler doğrultusunda kullanılan karikatürlere ilişkin öğrenci görüşlerinin olumlu olduğu, karikatürlerinin öğrenmeyi olumlu yönde etkileyerek motivasyonu sağladığı belirlenmiştir. Bulgulara göre kavram karikatürlerinin matematik başarısını artırma ve derse motive etmede kullanılabileceği söylenebilir. Elde edilen bulgular ışığında karikatürler ile araştırma yapacaklara yönelik öneriler geliştirilmiştir.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of teaching integers using cartoons on 7th grade students’ achievements and retention levels. The research particapiant are composed of 61 7th grade students attending an elementary school in Bolu during the 2007-2008 Academic Year. The research has been designed as the pre-test post-test with quasi experimental control group. The integers subject was taught using the conventional method in the control group, while 17 (seventeen) cartoons developed in line with the acquisitions related to the subject were used in the experimental group. Homogenous groups, each consisting of four students sharing the same opinions, were utilized in order to enable them to discuss the concepts more comprehensively and to question their own thinking patterns by creating a social learning environment. The research data were collected from the “Mathematics Achievement Test” and written opinions of students about the application process, during the application process that lasted 6 (six) weeks. The mathematical achievement test was also given as a retention test ten weeks after completion of the pre-test/post-test and application. While the quantitative data was analyzed by performing the t-test for dependent and independent samples, the qualitative data was analyzed descriptively. As a result of the research, it was found that using cartoons in teaching is more effective in terms of mathematics achievement and retention levels of students compared to the conventional method of teaching. Besides, it was seen that students had positive opinions about the cartoons used and that cartoons positively affected the learning and provided motivation. Based on the findings, it can be said that concept cartoons can be used to increase mathematical achievements of students, and to enhance their motivation toward the course. In the light of the findings of this study, the researchers have developed suggestions for those who will conduct further researches on concept cartoons.
