Abstract

After the involvement of the Balkans in the Ottoman territory, important works were produced in all types of Turkish literature from sufi to folk, this literary culture took root and blended with the local people’s culture in the region. The cultural exchange between Balkan and Turkish groups has formed the base for a common culture. There was an exchange between Slavic and Turkish languages which were used in the region and numerous Turkish origin words, a lot of proverbs, idioms, anecdotes got involved in the Balkan culture. One of the most beautiful examples of these is Hodja Nasreddin. The anecdotes of Hodja Nasreddin, which reached the Balkans with the Turkmen people who migrated from Anatolia were adopted and seen as one part of their own folk cultures by the local community.
