Abstract

On the matter of identifying human beliefs and the common aspects of these beliefs, it is possible to separate the people into two groups as atheists who claim that the universe has existed itself, therefore there is no god that is ruling over it and Deists who claim that there is a supreme being that has created the universe and is ruling over it. It is seen that religion has been existing since the beginning of human existence and that the traces of a religious belief related to each civilization are seen. And this indicates that atheism has never been a general belief throughout human history and that it cannot be approved as a start. When looking at the historical texts (some of which are given in this essay) by focusing on the answers given by Deists during the historical process, it can be seen that they have shone a light on the process of religious belief throughout history. Accordingly: Religious belief process in history does not show a progress from polytheism to monotheism. It cannot be also claimed that animism is the starting religion. These claims are against history. The common characteristics of the ancient religions, particularly: God, creation, water, mud, Adam and Eve, Evil, A Tree in Paradise, considered sacred from the Sky, searching for heaven in sky, underestimating surface, seeing hell unimportant, like same ideas which are in religious and mythology show their shared common roots. This root is Divine Religion and all of other religions stem from because of changing of this religion. In terms of historical process, ontological terms, epistemological terms, the belief process of human beings begins monotheist.
