Abstract

Television is one of the mass media which is still the most preferred in our day, even though it has fallen from grace through the development of new media. Television has become more important especially for child audiences with widespreading thematic channels. Programs are prepared by considering the imaginary world in the channels that present experted contents. This study has been prepared along with the problem which is in the direction of which motivations the children come to the screen. Survey method is used in the study prepared in the context of “viewpoint of uses and gratifications”. Four primary schools from different areas around Elazığ province are specified as sample. The data we have reached in consequence of the survey shows that the children watch television by motivations such as having fun, learning, relaxing, and evaluating free times. However, it is understood that watching television has benefits like entertaining and developing of imaginary world.
