Abstract

Depletion of population due to the disasters in which Turkiye was involved at the commencement of the 20 th century and the health problems of the whole community, were considered as a vital political issue and tackled as number one national enterprise at the beginning of the Republic. In such a state, although speedy propagation of populace came forth as a state policy, due to certain handicaps it had not gained desired success. One of the obstacles was the health problems of the community, which the young Republic had to face. Therefore, the problem of deplated population was in closely linked with the health problem of the community. It seems that the Republic had undertaken the community health and the population problems very seriously during its first thirty years. In this context, the governments had considered malaria, which was raging through the country, as a vital threat to new state and had undertaken a serious struggle against with it. In this study, the aganinst with malaria, which was seriously affecting the whole nation, and the health services provided for the people are analyzed. For that purpose, the documents of the Republican archives, the speeches of Atatürk and various researches’ publications were used.
