Posof is known as Çake or Cakeli especially in the Georgian sources because of the Kipchak and Kuman noble Turks who had settled in and around Cak Castle in the valley of Cak Suyu which drew the Turkish-Georgian border in the past and also the ancestors of Kipchak Atabekleri. The source of the word Poshov, which was the origin of the veil that transformed into Posof in the Republican era, comes from the words of Poshov, which came to the oak-woody meanings of the ancient Turkic, the word boca, which eventually merged with the word khev meaning the Georgian stream. Posof has a rich historical background, clearly understood from sources referred to as Posthov or Poshov in the Ottoman period, and in fact, with a woodland and marshland as well as a piece of land with valleys. Although it is the northernmost border, the existence of Urartian Civilization, which is seen in many castle settlements in the region, is also understood. For a long time Sasan and the struggle area of Byzantium, Posof and its vicinity, Milat, came to the influx of the Western Hun arms of Central Asia in the 6th and 8th centuries. The Oghuzes, the Siberians, the branches of the Göktürks and the Hazar Turks united to form a strong Turkish dominion in the region. XI. The Ottoman and Turkish Republic dominated the Anatolian Seljuks in the 20th century and they played a major role in continuing the Turkish- Islamic identity of local history and culture.
