LEARNING TURKISH FOR SYRIAN CHILDREN UNDER TEMPORARY PROTECTION RESEARCH ON THEIR SITUATION

Abstract

People need language most of their lives. They continued to communicate in their mother tongue in order to life or tended to another language. Tendency to another language besides diplomacy, education and personal purposes, it can take place in the axis of factors such as war, natural disaster and migration. Language is an important mechanism that enables the person to communicate, receive education and adapt to the society. Turkish Language education as a foreign language of Syrians in Turkey usually occurs due to war and migration. It is a priority necessity that the Syrians need to learn Turkish in order to continue their lives, to be adapted to Turkish society and to get education in institutions affiliated with the Republic of Turkey. The research was carried out with Syrian parents under Temporary Protection Status residing in Temporary Accommodation Centers in Akçakale, Harran and Ceylanpınar in Şanlıurfa. The aim of this study is to describe the satisfaction level of Syrian parents in field of education opportunities offered to children, students' comprehension level of Turkish, the school attendance rate of school-aged children, their tendency to continue their education in education centers outside the camps if it is possible. Research questions were determined and a survey form was created. The created surveys consisted of quantitative and open-ended questions. Likert type scale was used to be evaluated the judgements and expressions in the questions by Syrians. These surveys were applied to 113 Syrian parents and the collected data was analyzed with SPSS program.
