In the early periods, tafsir activities are pure and submissive. It also continued with a method based on narration (riwaya). In the next period of the new cultural area, at the expense of needs in the tafsir studies, it began to include rational (diraya) interpretations. Many tafsir schools appeared in this process. Also Andalusia region is a region that offers significant contributions to tafsir studies. Due to the prevalence of the Maliki madhhab, the tafsir activities of the Andalusian region continued on the narrative axis. In the study of tafsir in Andalusia, there is not much demand for Mu’tazila thought. One of the most important commentators who lived in this region was Ibn ‘Atiyya al-Andalusî (d. 541/1146). Ibn ‘Atiyya al-Andalusî was accepted as an authority in the exegesis of Qur’ân with his work al-Muh?arrar al-Wajîz fi¯ Tafsîr al-Kitâb al-‘Azîz. Many scholars have been praised Ibn ‘Atiyya by expressing his views on Islamic sciences in this exegesis. On the other hand, some scholars like Ibn Taymiyya, Ibn Arafa, Ibn Hajar al-Haytami, and Shawkani criticized him for Mu’tazila influence in his tafsir. It is even claimed that his tafsir contains much more harmful interpretations than the tafsir al-Zamakhshari. In this article, first of all, there is general information about method of Ibn ‘Atiyya in his tafsir. Then the criticised commentaries of Ibn ‘Atiyya were examined. As a result of this study, it will be ensured that allegations directed against Ibn ‘Atiyya al-Andalusî will be clarified. Thus, it will be an important data for the researchers with determining the of the interpretation tradition of Andalusia in general, and Ibn ‘Atiyya’s tafsir comprehension specially.},author={Abdulmuttalip ARPA},year={2017},journal={The Journal of Academic Social Science Studies}}
