This study tried to present the condition of Yazıcı Dam, which was constructed in the city of Ağrı for the provision of drinking and irrigation water. The drinking water demand of the city used to be met through 19 wells on the Ağrı Plain before. However, as the wells providing water posed the risk of pollution within the accommodation unit, the agricultural effect increased, high energy was consumed in the water provision and the available water reservoirs were insufficient, it was planned to meet the long-term drinking, domestic and industrial water demand of the city of Ağrı through Yazıcı Dam, which was constructed for irrigation and brought into service in 2008. In order to meet the water demand of the city, a purification plant was founded in 2010 and completed in 2011 to serve. A total of 28 million m³ water to be annually obtained from the Yazıcı Dam will meet the drinking water demand of the city of Ağrı until 2045. Ağrı is among the richest cities in terms of water resources in our country. The increase of population and consequently the emergence of new accommodation units have gradually increased the water problem of the city of Ağrı. The most important project being realized to solve the water problem is undoubtedly the purification plants that were constructed to provide drinking water from the Yazıcı Dam, which was founded for irrigation. The dam has solved the long-term water problem of the city of Ağrı, in terms of the water reservoir and the water content. However, Yazıcı Dam fails to provide the usual taste of drinking water for the people of Ağrı and has brought along the dispute about the potableness of water. In the light of all these events, this study will try to present the condition of Yazıcı Dam and purification plants, which were constructed to meet the water demand of the city of Ağrı.
