Abstract

Mu’tazila is one of the most important schools in Islamic thought history which has prominent Kalâm ulema. Mu’tazila has great participant during building Islamic thought. This school defends that all dogmas can be known by intelligence. Also this school consists many different ideological tendencies and religious thoughts. They have been remembered with their intellectually competing with other religions and civilizations by practicing rational and critical methods. Also the subject of tawheed has been discussed widely by Kalâm schools especially between the Mu’tazila and Ehli Sunna. But had certain problems for making tha İslamic society adopt his system of ideas. Such as other Islamic schools Mu’tazila has many dissidences. Due to this dissidence it has two different name. During Umayyad era Mu’tazila school has a great power in Basra and it is known as a “Basra school”, and during Abbasid era this school was active in Baghdad and known as “Baghdad school”. While studying on sects’ history and Kalâm science factors which has great effect on this school should be search deeply. For instance, effects of ecological, cultural and social structure on schools. When we look at the life history of Basra Mu’tazila schools’ ulama to seeing their close relationship (such as father-son, hodja-student, and uncle-nephew) is remarkable. Furthermore one of the most characteristic sides of this school is their ideas are much more close to Ehlisünnet than Baghdad school. Basra school is this study’s main focus which has manage to provide carrying Mu’tazila doctrine today. This study’s main aim is to look Basra Mu’tazila school’s important ulama’s life exhaustively.
