Abstract

This study investigated the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Body Appreciation Scale (BAS; Tylka, & Wood-Barcalow, 2015). The scale contains 10 with each item rated on a 6-point Likert-type scale. Participants voluntarily participated in research. The sample of study consists of 200 teachers work in İstanbul. Primarily the BAS was translated into Turkish by three academicians from English Language and Literature department. The Turkish form was back-translated into English and the consistency between the Turkish and English forms was examined. Then Turkish form has been reviewed by two academicians from educational sciences department. Finally they discussed the Turkish form and along with some corrections the scale was prepared for validity and reliability analyses. In this study, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was executed to confirm the original scale’s structure in Turkish culture. As reliability analysis Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficients and the item-total correlations were calculated. Data were analyzed using SPSS 13.0 and LISREL 8.54 package programs. Fit index values of the model were: RMSEA=.077, NFI=.92, CFI=.95, IFI=.95, GFI=.93. The internal consistency reliability coefficient of the scale was found as .88. Also the corrected item-total correlations ranged from .31 to .76. Overall findings demonstrated that this scale had high validity and reliability scores and that it may be used as a valid and reliable instrument in order to assess body appreciation levels of in
