Abstract

People who were unable to attend traditional secondary schools due to various reasons or are exceeding the age limit can continue their education at open education secondary schools. Open education secondary schools are educational schools that follows the same curriculum with continuing education and conduct the program by utilizing distant education techniques. In these schools, the books prepared by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) and so-called lecture notes, are used as teaching materials for the students. In this study, the texts and word teaching activities in the Turkish lecture notes, prepared in the scope of traditional Turkish lecture curriculum by General Directory of Lifelong Learning of MEB in 2014 for the sixth grade students, was evaluated in terms of lexical view. The research is a descriptive research screening model on a produced structure. A total of 15 texts and 68 word teaching related activities in the book were investigated. The obtained data, related to lexical view, showed that “Open Education Secondary School 6 Grade Turkish Lecture Notes” was not sufficient to meet the aimed word teaching. Moreover, even though "Open Education Secondary School Regulation" imposes the lecture books be prepared in accordance with "the Primary School Turkish Lecture Curriculum" it was also figured out that the book does not comply well with the regulations. It is considered that the prepared books to achieve the goal of the Open Education Secondary need a little more attentive and careful a new arrangement.
